Job description


Position Description:
Codes and programs systems using Structured Query Language (SQL). Applies test driven design concepts to test and debug automated solutions and software utilities. Identifies risks and develops contingency plans in anticipation of test automation issues. Implements process improvements within Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) environments (Agile/Scrum). Crafts and maintains testing frameworks -- Junit, Cucumber, and FitNesse. Uses business knowledge to translate the vision for divisional initiatives into business solutions by developing multiple software applications and conducting studies of alternatives. Analyzes and recommends changes in project development policies, procedures, standards, and strategies to development experts and management.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Participates in architecture design teams.

  • Defines and implements application-level architecture.

  • Develops applications on complex projects, components, and subsystems for the division.

  • Recommends development testing tools and methodologies and reviews and validates test plans.

  • Responsible for QA readiness of software deliverables.

  • Develops comprehensive documentation for multiple applications or subsystems.

  • Establishes full project life cycle plans for complex projects across multiple platforms.

  • Responsible for meeting project goals on-time and on-budget.

  • Advises on risk assessment and risk management strategies for projects.

  • Plans and coordinates project schedules and assignments for multiple projects.

  • Acts as a primary liaison for business units to resolve various project/technology issues.

  • Provides technology solutions to daily issues and technical evaluation estimates on technology initiatives.

  • Advises senior management on technical strategy.

  • Mentors junior team members.

  • Performs independent and complex technical and functional analysis for multiple projects supporting several divisional initiatives.

  • Develops original and creative technical solutions to on-going development efforts.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and five (5) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) designing and implementing Web applications in a financial services environment, using Java Spring framework and Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Or, alternatively, Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and three (3) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) designing and implementing Web applications in a financial services environment, using Java Spring framework and Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Candidate must also possess:
  • Demonstrated Expertise ("DE") designing, developing, maintaining, and providing technical leadership for Web-based financial services, plan configuration, and contract management applications in Java, Spring Boot, Spring MVC, and client-side technologies (HTML, CSS, and JavaScript); and executing Web-based applications in an IntelliJ IDEA integrated development environment, using HTML5 and Angular framework for application build, Maven for automation, and Jenkins for deployment.

  • DE programming Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) in REST patterns, using Spring framework, OAuth, Swagger, Apache Kafka, and Docker, to perform asynchronous event-drive processing (Kafka and Spring Boot), within a distributed environment; deploying Software as a Service (SaaS) in Cloud Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), using Deployment as a Service (DaaS) to automate deployment; and scaling containerized services using Helm, AKS, and Azure PostgreSQL within a Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery/Deployment (CI/CD)-enabled Cloud environment.

  • DE designing data structure to implement scalable and efficient applications using advanced data structure concepts (Binary Tree, Binary Search Tree, Graphs, and Entity Relationship) and Unified Modeling Language (UML) on Microsoft Visio, ArgoUML, and Java models; performing architectural modeling and data flow design using UML and Entity Relationship (ER) diagrams for complex enterprise applications to optimize performance and maintainability; and performing tree operations (tree traversal) using advanced algorithms (Order Tree, Post Order Tree, and Pre Order Tree Traversals) to execute data parsing and hierarchical decision-making, applying custom tree traversal algorithms within rule-based engines.

  • DE developing Business Rules Engine to enforce business logic, policies, and consistent decision making for applications, using Rete algorithm and Drools Rule Language (DRL) in Red Hat JBoss Business Rules Management System.
