Junior Varsity Football Coach - St. James Public Schools - ISD840

Stipend: $3,735
Season: Fall

Purpose

  1. To instruct student-athletes in the fundamental skills, strategies, techniques, and physical conditioning necessary for success in football.
  2. To promote teamwork, sportsmanship, responsibility, leadership, self-discipline, and character development through participation in athletics.

Summary

The Assistant Football Coach (Junior Varsity) supports all aspects of the football program under the direction of the Head Football Coach. Responsibilities include assisting with practices, game preparation, player development, supervision of student-athletes, and fostering a positive team culture. The coach ensures compliance with all school, conference, and MSHSL policies while representing St. James Public Schools and the community in a professional manner. The Assistant Football Coach reports directly to the Head Football Coach and High School Activities Director.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and conducting structured, purposeful practices.
  • Teach football fundamentals, techniques, and team concepts.
  • Support player development in a positive and encouraging environment.
  • Assist with game preparation, scouting, and in-game responsibilities.
  • Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, travel, and team events.
  • Promote teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship, leadership, and accountability.
  • Foster a positive team culture and school pride.
  • Support and reinforce program expectations established by the Head Coach.
  • Communicate effectively with student-athletes, families, coaching staff, and administration.
  • Assist with equipment management, inventory, and organization.
  • Ensure safety standards and proper athletic techniques are followed at all times.
  • Model professionalism and positive sportsmanship.
  • Support academic accountability and student success.
  • Ensure compliance with MSHSL, conference, and district policies.
  • Assist with additional program responsibilities as assigned by the Head Coach or Activities Director.
