Job description

Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. At Joby, we've been working to make that dream a reality since 2009 and we're now in the final stages of certifying our aircraft with the FAA. With plans to launch our aircraft in the US and Dubai, we're now scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of our commercial service.

Joby Aviation is seeking a passionate International Operations Logistics Manager to join our Commercial Operations team as Joby conducts flight operations across numerous domestic and international markets. In this role, you will serve as a critical operational enabler, working with Jobyโ€™s logistics team to build the logistical support structure needed to facilitate global operations for both current and future operations. You must have deep experience in orchestrating ocean, road, and air freight for both export and import shipments. You will lead the planning and coordination of all transportation logistics for flight demonstrations and early commercial flight operations, encompassing vendor choice and contracting, the initial cross-border movement of Jobyโ€™s aircraft and equipment, as well as the retrograde of assets back to the U.S. or to the next operational location.

During the execution phase of flight operations, you will travel to operational sites to serve as the primary point of coordination for shipping logistics, ensuring continuity for smooth, successful, and safe execution. You will work closely with multiple teams within Joby, including Logistics, Global Trade and Compliance, Legal, Flight Test and Maintenance, Infrastructure, and Safety. This role is based on-site at Jobyโ€™s Marina, California, facility and requires up to 50% international and domestic travel, with travel periods typically ranging from one to six weeks at a time.

  • Lead Operationsโ€™ coordination with internal and external teams on transportation, global logistics of Joby aircraft and equipment for flight demonstrations and early commercial operations.
  • Travel to provide on-site supervision of the arrival and departure of critical shipments, as well as ongoing on-site sustaining shipping support.
  • Support Jobyโ€™s Logistics team in coordination with freight forwarders by working with third-party freight forwarders as well as directly with transportation operators to arrange rapid, compliant, and cost-effective transportation.
  • Manage cross-border aviation logistics operations and oversee customs brokerage, carnet processes, and temporary imports.
  • Establish the systems and protocols to manage 24/7 escalation of critical shipping challenges.
  • Support on-site Joby teams in planning and coordinating the shipment of hazardous materials, including arranging transportation, ensuring appropriate packaging, labeling, and documentation.
  • Develop a system for Joby teams to utilize, which ensures organized and timely inventory and packing of all shipments.
  • Coordinate with Jobyโ€™s legal and Global Trade Compliance teams on all cross-border shipments to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Develop long-term strategies for the cost-effective international transportation of Jobyโ€™s aircraft, aircraft parts, and supporting equipment as Joby operations scale over the coming years.
  • Develop and manage budgets, identify and implement cost-saving opportunities.
  • Support internal and external audits and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree or equivalent experience in engineering, supply chain, logistics, business, operations, aviation management, or a relevant field.
  • 8+ years of experience in international aviation logistics or the transportation logistics of similar industries.
  • Proven track record of quickly resolving real-time shipping and customs-related friction points.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, with periods of travel typically ranging from one to six weeks at a time.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proficiency in common workplace software: Microsoft and/or Google Office tools, including working with spreadsheets.

  • Project management certificate, or relevant project management experience.
  • Current Hazmat and Dangerous Goods Certified.
  • Proven track record in managing ATA carnets.
  • Knowledge of ITAR / EAR export regulations.
  • Professional proficiency in Arabic, Korean, or Japanese.
