Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled CNC Operator to set up and operate Horizontal CNC Lathes, performing a wide range of machining operations. This role involves interpreting process drawings, selecting tools, and ensuring precise machining on various materials including cast iron, steel, and non-ferrous metals. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and committed to maintaining high-quality standards in a safe and organized environment.
Shift: 2nd Monday-Friday
Key Job Responsibilities
  • Receives work assignment; secures drawing, reads and interprets process drawing for sequence of operations, tools, type of set up, fixture, load programs, monitors and qualifies machining requirements such as feeds, speeds, dimensions, tolerances, etc.; obtains and returns tools, fixtures, etc. as required; keeps cutting tools in proper working condition.
  • Selects appropriate collet, chuck, and/or fixtures, steady rest as prescribed on process sheet, sets piece in machine or with aid of floor operated overhead crane or hoist; inserts appropriate cutting tools in their proper stations in turret and cross slide tool posts, turret, tool changer, as prescribed on process sheet and operates machine, and adjusts flow of control; observes operations closely, checks dimensions, and adjusts as needed.
  • Monitors program speeds, feeds, number of cuts, dry runs, and prove-out programs. Works in conjunction with Manufacturing Support Department to develop processes, programs, and process sheets. Occasionally operates machine under keyboard or manual control when necessary. Edits program when required. Closely observes operations to detect trouble through warning indicator lights on control console in programming or errors in machine command, sequence, or electrical malfunction.
  • Removes piece from machine, identifies parts by engraving or stamping, cleans out chips, and sets aside to remove burrs.
  • Monitors very close tolerance machining operations such as drilling, milling, centering, turning, facing, threading, reaming, chamfering, tapping, etc. on parts. Lubricates machine as needed.
  • Assists with cleaning and repair of own machine when required.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area, including equipment, and performs all assignments in a safe manner and in accordance with established procedures.

Qualifications/Requirements
  • Prior machining experience
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to read technical drawings and manuals
  • Experience with precision measurement tools
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Physical & Work Requirements
  • Ability to lift and move heavy components (with assistance or lifting devices)
  • Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in industrial environments
  • Willingness to work shifts, overtime, weekends, and on-call as required
  • Ability to stand, kneel, climb, and work in varied environmental conditions
