Technical Production Manager
FLSA: Exempt, Full-Time
Location: Mount Prospect, IL
Supervisor Duties: Yes

Lapmaster International is looking for an experienced, highly organized technical manager to lead a production team building custom machine tools. Responsibilities range from developing technical solutions that arise during the build process for custom machines and directing machine shop activities for component fabrication to the creation of production schedules, supervising production processes, ensuring that materials are staged, and that as-required materials are selected and purchased. Technical skills that are necessary in this role include the ability to interpret and redline engineering drawings, develop engineering sketches for mechanical components and changes, review and manage bills of material, and direct the activities of a technical assembly workforce.
The production manager is responsible for interfacing with engineering and procurement to support production of new products, and for ensuring that equipment is built to specifications and requirements to function correctly. Hands-on industry experience with the production of machine tools for grinding, lapping, honing, and/or wire-saw cutting is preferred.
As a manager, the role is also responsible for managing workers' assignment, time recording, staffing, and ensuring that health and safety protocols are adhered to.
To be successful as a production manager you must be able to multitask and oversee several operations at a time with excellent time management and interpersonal skills.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Creating and managing a daily production and staffing schedule.
  • Problem solving final assembly technical and operational issues.
  • Training new employees.
  • Scheduling regular maintenance for equipment.
  • Estimating labor requirements for custom machine builds
  • Selecting as-required materials for purchase (fasteners, clamps, fittings, etc.).
  • Ensuring that health and safety protocols are adhered to.

Skills/Education Requirements:
  • Industry-related experience.
  • A technical or business degree would be advantageous.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to use Office equipment, and various office software.
