Job description

MSHS English Language Development (ELD) Teacher (1.0 FTE) -  St. James Public Schools

Date of Availability: August 2026, possible PD opportunities available June 2026-August 2026

Date Closing: Until Filled

Job Summary:

St. James Public Schools is seeking an ELD teacher for the 2026-2027 school year and beyond at St. James Middle Senior High School.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Implements methods and techniques of differentiating the District approved curriculum for meeting the needs of individual ELD students (English Language Development)
  2. Plans instruction and other student support activities, including the establishment of overall goals and priorities.
  3. Participates in parent/teacher conferences; interprets student strengths, weaknesses and/or problems that the student may be experiencing in the classroom.
  4. Develops student assessments and evaluates results.
  5. Determines student progress for instructional units and works with classroom teachers to report progress to parents
  6. Works in a supportive and collaborative manner with colleagues and supervisors.
  7. Comply with Minnesota Department of Education requirements for assessing, reporting and serving students who qualify for ELL services.
  8. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned by administrator
  9. Science of Reading Training Completed, preferred, BUT not required, St. James Public Schools offers LETRS Training.

Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborative work in a fast-paced environment interacting with students, staff, administrators, parents, and the community with multiple requests and concerns.
  2. Support and communicate with other administrators and staff.
  3. Respond in emergency situations.
  4. Know, interpret, and follow school District policies.
  5. Willingness to adjust to the changing schedules of students in a pull-out or push-in program.
  6. Pursues professional development activities to broaden and deepen knowledge of the content and teaching skills and continually identifies professional needs and develops strategies to meet these needs.
  7. Manage time, responsibilities and work independently.  

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's (BA/BS) degree required
  2. English as a Second Language license preferred
  3. Minnesota teaching license with the appropriate grade level and subject area certification required, or ability to obtain.
  4. Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a job-related field.

Salary and Benefits:

Competitive salary and benefits package. For more information, please see the SJPS Master Agreement 2025-2027. Salary range listed ($45,023-$86,948) is based on the current collective bargaining agreement that is effective through the 2026-2027 school year.
