Job description

Job Description

Criticalist | Veterinary Specialty Hospital North County

Veterinary Specialty Hospital of San Diego - North County is seeking a full-time, board-certified or board-eligible Criticalist to join our growing Emergency and Critical Care team in San Marcos, California.

This is an opportunity to join an established, 24/7 emergency and specialty hospital and help shape the continued development of our critical care service alongside our current Criticalist. We are seeking a collaborative and experienced clinician who is comfortable managing a diverse and complex caseload, values partnership across specialties, and is interested in helping strengthen the department as our hospital continues to grow.

Our Criticalists work closely with a multidisciplinary team that includes Emergency and Critical Care, Surgery, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Medical Oncology, Diagnostic Imaging, Ophthalmology, and Cardiology. The hospital is supported by an experienced clinical team and advanced diagnostic and treatment capabilities, including MRI, 128-slice CT, fluoroscopy, digital radiography, endoscopy, ultrasound, advanced surgical suites, a USP 800-compliant oncology treatment center, and a dedicated intensive care unit.

VSH North County is also relocating to a new 35,000-square-foot hospital in San Marcos in early 2027. Our expanded facility will provide greater clinical capacity, including more than 2x additional examination rooms, expanded ICU and specialty space, 9 operating rooms, including a hybrid operating room and catheterization lab, as well as a fluoroscopy suite. Our incoming Criticalist will have a meaningful opportunity to contribute to the continued growth and direction of critical care within this new environment.

We are proud of the collaborative culture at VSH North County. Our clinicians and clinical teams work closely across departments to provide exceptional care, support one another, and deliver a strong experience for patients, clients, and referring veterinary partners.

Veterinary Specialty Hospital and Ethos Veterinary Health

VSH North County is part of Ethos Veterinary Health, providing our clinicians access to the resources, knowledge, and professional community of a national network while maintaining the identity and culture of our local hospital. Ethos is committed to advancing veterinary medicine through clinical collaboration, education, and transformative science.

Compensation and Benefits

The anticipated annual salary range for this position is $225,000 to $250,000, based on experience, qualifications, and relevant credentials. The position is also eligible for 25% production earnings.

Our comprehensive package includes:

  • Significant sign-on and relocation assistance
  • Medical and dental insurance
  • Flexible spending accounts
  • 401(k) with employer contribution
  • Continuing education allowance and professional expense support
  • Career coaching and financial advisory resources
  • Mental health and well-being resources
  • Opportunities for professional and leadership growth

Qualified candidates may confidentially submit their CV to Jake Osborn, Senior Talent Acquisition Partner, at jake.osborn@nva.com.

Ethos Veterinary Health, part of the NVA Group, is where you come to practice world-class medicine, and help shape what veterinary care becomes next.

Across our network of 140 specialty and emergency hospitals, science moves forward, standards are elevated, and innovation is put into practice every day. You\'ll work alongside respected veterinary leaders in academic-caliber hospitals designed for learning, teaching, and discovery.

Here, mentorship is a two-way street. You\'ll share your expertise, learn from others, and continue to grow, clinically, professionally, and personally.

At Ethos, you inspire hope, deliver exceptional care, and pursue veterinary medicine at its highest level, together.

Benefits for this role may include health insurance (medical, dental, vision), retirement benefits, paid time off (including sick leave and vacation), short-term and long-term disability, and life insurance.
