Global Impact Group LLC is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) and ISO 9001 / ISO 17100 certified provider of interpretation and translation services. We deliver secure, high-quality language solutions in 80+ spoken and signed languages for USCIS and other federal agencies.
We are seeking Soninke Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to support our USCIS contract. Soninke, also known as Maraka or Sarakole, is a Mande language spoken in Mali, Senegal, Mauritania, Ivory Coast, and Gambia, and is a rare but important language often required for asylum and immigration proceedings.
Responsibilities
  • Provide real-time Soninke ↔ English telephonic interpretation for USCIS officers, applicants, and stakeholders.
  • Interpret with accuracy, impartiality, and professionalism in immigration, legal, and asylum contexts.
  • Maintain confidentiality under USCIS/DHS interpreter standards.
  • Manage both scheduled assignments and urgent/surge calls.
  • Participate in training, compliance refreshers, and QA audits.
Qualifications
  • Native or near-native fluency in Soninke and English.
  • 2+ years of professional interpreting experience (immigration, asylum, NGO, community, or government strongly preferred).
  • Strong cultural knowledge of West African Soninke-speaking communities.
  • Familiarity with interpreter ethics, confidentiality, and impartiality standards.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident eligible for Tier 3/Tier 5 clearance.
