Job description

A Brief Overview

The Andrologist III plays a critical role in supporting daily operations within the IVF Andrology laboratory to ensure high and consistent pregnancy success rates. This position assists the Supervisor in overseeing lab operations and personnel, including training new technologists and facilitating ongoing education. The Andrologist III ensures proper functioning and maintenance of laboratory equipment, troubleshoots technical issues, and evaluates new technologies and techniques.Responsibilities include performing comprehensive andrology laboratory procedures, such as testicular biopsy specimen preparation, adhering to quality control protocols, and complying with regulatory standards (e.g., Ohio Department of Health, CAP, FDA). The role also involves clerical duties, inventory management, and maintaining effective communication with patients, clinical staff, and lab personnel.This position requires flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and extended hours. The Andrologist III demonstrates strong leadership skills by training, motivating, and leading staff, contributing to administrative tasks, and developing and leading research initiatives. Additionally, this role supports satellite andrology operations as needed.

What You Will Do
  • Assist Supervisor with oversight of laboratory operations and personnel performing testing.
  • Assist with training new Technologist; assist in identifying continuing medical educational opportunities for lab personnel.
  • Ensures operation of equipment; follows manufacturer's instructions; calling for repairs; maintain equipment inventory' assist in evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • Resolves technical problems in accordance with policies and procedures established by Lab director and/or Supervisor.
  • Monitors test performance; ensures that remedial action is taken when test systems deviate from the laboratories established performance specifications.
  • Performs all aspects of the Andrology laboratory including testicular biopsies specimen preparation; follows established policy and protocols for quality control, andrology procedures, day to day management of the andrology laboratory, and standard set forth by state and federal agency including Ohio department of health, College of American Pathologist (CAP), and Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
  • Performs clerical tasks to contribute to the successful operation of the laboratory.
  • Maintains proper communication and interaction with patients, clinical staff, and laboratory personnel.
  • Maintains supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies.
  • Demonstrates leadership behaviors and excels in training, leading and motivating other staff.
  • Develops and leads research activities.
  • Assist with andrology satellite location and operations coverage.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.
  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
Education
  • Master's Degree Masters of Science in a Biological Science (Preferred) or
  • Bachelor's Degree or minimum of Bachelors in Science (Required)
Work Experience
  • 5+ years with a Bachelors in Science (Required) or
  • 3+ years with a Masters in a Biological Science (Required)
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Extensive knowledge of reproductive biology including male reproductive system and Assisted Reproductive Technology. Proficient in all Andrology techniques and procedures. Appropriate knowledge of Microsoft office, excel, PowerPoint, and Access. Excellent communication skills. Demonstrates leadership qualities. (Required proficiency)
