Job description

Location: Los Angeles
Salary Range (Los Angeles): $140K-$200K + COVU shares

About COVU
COVU is a venture-backed insurtech startup reimagining how independent insurance agencies operate. We're building an AI-native agent workspace that unifies communication, automation, and workflows-helping agencies grow faster and operate smarter. Our founders bring deep expertise in AI and cloud platforms, and we're tackling big, meaningful challenges with a modern, scalable approach.

The Role

We are seeking an elite Technical Product Manager to lead COVU Connect, the backbone of all COVU products, powering internal tools, AI agents, and automation workflows. Connect harmonizes data across Agency Management Systems, IVANS feeds, and carrier integrations while exposing a clean API layer that powers services such as COI generation, rating, and policy access. This role is the guardian of our Master Data Management (MDM) and the central platform for internal data and integration services.

Leading a lean squad of senior engineers, you will design and evolve the platform that ingests, normalizes, and exposes insurance data through internal APIs and services. Your work ensures downstream systems can rely on clean, consistent, and observable data. You are the architect who ensures our internal API services are performant and capable of parsing complex legacy data (like AL3) into a unified "Gold Record."

What You'll Do

  • Own the Platform Layer: Define and evolve the integration and service layer that powers COVU OS and AI agents.
  • Architect the Single Source of Truth: Own MDM logic and the Data Access Layer, ensuring reliable policy and account data across ETL pipelines and legacy formats like AL3.
  • Define Platform APIs: Design and document API contracts used by internal systems (OS, Vero) including services such as COI generation, rating, and policy retrieval.
  • Prevent Platform Fragmentation: Ensure all product teams build on the Connect platform rather than creating parallel data pipelines or service layers.
  • Integrate Complex Ecosystems: Harmonize data across AMS systems, IVANS feeds, and carrier integrations.
  • Translate Data Complexity into Product Systems: Turn messy legacy insurance standards into clean, scalable engineering designs.
  • Engineering Partnership: Act as the primary technical proxy for the VP of Product, ensuring your engineers have the mapping documents and enumeration mappings they need to remain unblocked.

Who You Are

  • 5+ years of Technical Product Management experience, specifically focused on data platforms, MDM, or complex API integrations.
  • Extreme Technical Literacy: You must have strong SQL skills as well as a deep understanding of relational databases and system architecture. Postman is a daily tool for you.
  • High-Velocity Decision Maker: Someone who can make high-velocity decisions based on product principles (e.g., Data Integrity > UI Polish) and earn trust through technical accuracy.
  • Plain-Text Precision: Ability to write clear, technical specs that define exactly how data should be handled, validated, and stored without fluff.
  • Problem Solver: A pragmatic thinker who can analyze messy legacy data standards and design clean modern solutions.

Bonus:

  • Direct experience with insurance data standards (IVANS, AL3, ACORD).
  • Experience with Agency Management Systems like Applied EPIC, Nowcerts, or EZlynx.
  • Experience building platform products used by other engineering teams.

Why Join Us

  • Lead foundational projects shaping the future of insurtech.
  • Work directly with founders and senior leaders in AI, product, and engineering.
  • Own meaningful architecture decisions and influence team culture from the ground up.
  • Be part of a high-growth, venture-backed startup tackling real industry challenges.
  • Competitive compensation + equity package.

Our Interview Process

  1. Intro Call: 30-minute screen with the People Team.
  2. Product Vision & Principles: Deep-dive interview with the VP of Product to ensure alignment on strategy vs. tactics.
  3. Technical Product Exercise: A time-boxed session where the candidate designs a platform solution for a complex integration scenario (data ingestion, API design, and system boundaries) and walks through their architecture and tradeoffs with Product and Engineering leadership.
  4. Final discussion with leadership

Please be strictly advised that the use of any real-time AI assistance, screen-reading software, or external aids during the application process is strictly prohibited. We employ active detection methods to ensure the integrity of our hiring process. Any violation of this policy will result in the immediate termination of the interview and permanent disqualification of your candidacy.
