Key responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair desktop and laptop computers

  • Troubleshoot Windows, hardware, software, and peripheral issues

  • Build, configure, and set up new computers

Job description

OmniComp is looking for an enthusiastic, dependable IT Support Technician to join our team full-time, Monday–Friday, 9:00am – 6:00pm.

This is a hands-on position ideal for someone who enjoys working with computers, troubleshooting technical problems, helping customers, and learning new technologies. Our technicians work on a wide variety of systems and issues, so no two days are exactly the same.

We welcome applicants at all experience levels, but prior experience working in a computer repair shop, computer store, helpdesk or similar hands-on technical environment is expected.

What You'll Do

As an IT Support Technician, your responsibilities will include:

  • Diagnose and repair desktop and laptop computers
  • Troubleshoot Windows, hardware, software, and peripheral issues
  • Build, configure, and set up new computers
  • Perform hardware upgrades, including memory, SSDs, and other components
  • Install and configure operating systems and applications
  • Remove malware and troubleshoot performance issues
  • Perform data transfers and assist with backup and recovery
  • Provide help desk and technical support by phone and remote connection
  • Prepare and configure computers and equipment for our business customers
  • Assist customers dropping off or picking up equipment
  • Help with computer hardware, accessories, and technology sales
  • Document service work and customer issues
  • Work alongside our network and field technicians on larger projects

While we do have some retail customer traffic, the majority of our work is supporting business customers. This position includes a significant amount of telephone and remote help desk support in addition to hands-on bench work.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has prior experience working in a computer shop, repair center, or similar hands-on IT environment
  • Has a genuine passion for computers and technology
  • Enjoys troubleshooting and figuring out technical problems
  • Is comfortable working with computer hardware and replacing components
  • Has experience installing and troubleshooting Microsoft Windows
  • Can communicate clearly and professionally with customers
  • Is comfortable providing technical support over the phone
  • Is dependable, organized, and able to manage multiple service requests
  • Is willing to learn new technologies and take on additional responsibilities
  • Works well independently and as part of a team

Applicants must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Experience

We are open to candidates with different levels of technical experience.

You do not need to know everything. We're interested in people who already have a solid hands-on foundation and are curious, motivated, technically inclined, and eager to learn.

Experience with some or all of the following is expected:

  • Windows 10/11
  • Desktop and laptop hardware repair
  • Custom PC assembly
  • Microsoft 365
  • Printers and peripherals
  • Wired and wireless networking
  • Malware removal and endpoint security
  • Remote support tools
  • Active Directory
  • Microsoft Azure / Entra ID
  • Google Workspace
  • Apple computers and devices

Opportunity for Growth

This position can be much more than a bench technician role.

For the right person, there is significant opportunity to grow into additional IT support and networking responsibilities, including:

  • On-site customer support
  • Field service calls
  • Network troubleshooting
  • Server and infrastructure support
  • Microsoft 365 and cloud administration
  • Cybersecurity
  • New computer and network deployments
  • Larger customer IT projects

We like developing technicians who want to expand their skills and responsibilities.
