Job Summary
The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for Learning Assistants in Physics & Astronomy - Institutional Student Workers for the 2026 -2027 academic year. Learning Assistants are undergraduate students who, through the guidance of weekly preparation sessions and a pedagogy course, facilitate discussions among groups of students in a variety of classroom settings that encourage active engagement.
Responsibilities
  • Interact with groups of students in lecture and/or lab courses by facilitating discussions about conceptual problems within the discipline.
  • LAs will focus mainly on eliciting student thinking and helping each student participate in developing a shared understanding.
  • Engage with faculty members in weekly preparation meetings.
  • Meet with their coordinators and/or faculty as a team at least once per week to prepare for future classes, develop deeper content understanding, and exchange information about how students are progressing in the course.

Required Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled at the University of North Georgia in a minimum of six (6) credit hours to qualify as a student worker.
  • Applicants must have successfully completed coursework in at least one of the following courses by the start of the Fall 2026 semester:
    • PHYS 1111L or 2211L, PHYS 1112L or 2212L, PHYS 2212, ASTR 1010, ASTR 1020.
