Job Summary
The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for an IT Student Technician position on the Gainesville campus. The IT Student Technician serves as a front-line support resource for students, faculty, and staff, assisting with a variety of basic technology-related issues. Responsibilities include troubleshooting hardware and software problems, providing support for mobile and personal devices, and documenting work orders and service requests for escalation to the appropriate IT teams when additional support is needed. This is a trusted position that requires a high level of professionalism, responsibility, and confidentiality. Student technicians are expected to handle sensitive information appropriately and represent the IT department with integrity in all interactions
Responsibilities
  • The IT Student Technician will be responsible for:
    Frontline Support: Assist students, faculty, and staff with basic technical issues.
    Personal device support: including check-in to perform troubleshooting and resolution.
    Troubleshoot Hardware and Software: Running computer scans, cleanup tools, and software updates as well as installing software and recovering license keys.
    Hardware installation including RAM and HDD.
    Inventory: Maintain inventory of IT equipment.
    Maintain Technology Resources: Support labs, printers, including toner and paper supplies.
    Other Duties as Assigned: Support additional technology-related tasks or special projects as directed.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Basic understanding of computer hardware and operating systems (Windows, macOS).
  • Common software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, web browsers).
  • Mobile device platforms (iOS, Android).
  • Understanding customer service principles.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Time management.
  • Ability to adapt and learn quickly and work with a team.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of six (6) credit hours to qualify as a student worker.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Enrollment in University of North Georgia, preferably in the Computer Science or Computer Information Systems program.
