Health Shared Services (HSS) launched on Dec. 1, 2025, and provides vital services to clinical and non-clinical teams across Alberta's healthcare system. We share a common purpose with the teams we serve to deliver timely, high-quality healthcare to patients and families across the province.

Description:

As a valued member of the provincial Database Services team of 21 DBAs, the IT Infrastructure Services 4 (Senior Database Administrator) will deliver quality service in a fast-paced and high-energy environment. You will work independently and within a team to perform complex database tasks, in support of mission-critical Oracle databases for AHS/HSS. You will be responsible for database backups, failovers and monitoring; data refreshes of non-production environments; security/audit compliance and security patching; application/database configuration and version upgrades. There is evening and weekend work and on call support in a rotation of 7 people. To be successful in this role, you must have the ability to work collaboratively within the Database team and with various application, architecture and technical teams.

Required Qualifications:

Post-secondary degree or diploma in Computer Science or related field. MANDATORY - 10 or more years of DBA experience supporting Oracle databases on UNIX/Linux. Experience in the support and management of large database installations.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Ability to balance numerous demands and conflicting priorities. Ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams within set project schedules and forge a relationship by communicating effectively with different stakeholders. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Mentoring, conflict resolution and negotiation skills. Ability to identify opportunities, develop and implement process improvements, including advanced troubleshooting of performance issues: evaluate code, analyze and make suggestions for improvements.


Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of SAN storage. Highly skilled in the use of UNIX operating system and experience writing shell scripts. Experience supporting Oracle eBusiness Suite. Experience supporting open source database platforms. Knowledge/certification in project management. Knowledge/awareness of cybersecurity concepts. Knowledge of Agile methodology and different architectural frameworks like Zachmann.
