What is an IT QA analyst?

IT QA Analysts, or Information Technology Quality Assurance Analysts, are professionals responsible for testing and evaluating software applications to ensure they meet specified requirements and quality standards. They design and execute test plans, identify bugs or issues, and collaborate with developers to resolve them. Their work helps ensure that software products are reliable, functional, and user-friendly before they are released to customers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an IT QA analyst?

To thrive as an IT QA Analyst, you need a solid understanding of software testing methodologies, attention to detail, and typically a degree in computer science or a related field. Strong analytical thinking, effective communication, and collaboration skills help differentiate top performers in this role. These skills ensure accurate defect detection, clear reporting, and seamless teamwork, leading to higher software quality and successful project delivery.

What are some common challenges faced by IT QA analysts when working with cross-functional teams?

  • Collaborating with development, product, and quality engineering to ensure smooth delivery
  • Conducting peer reviews of test cases to ensure rigor and consistency
  • Performing manual testing and contributing to automated test creation
  • Identifying opportunities to enhance and streamline testing processes
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

Must Have:

  • 5+ years of experience in software quality assurance and testing.
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing business requirements for completeness, clarity, testability, and risk.
  • Ability to identify workflow impacts, system dependencies, integration points, and downstream risks early in the Software Development Life Cycle.
  • Experience developing and executing comprehensive test strategies and test plans in collaboration with business and technical stakeholders.
  • Strong experience creating, maintaining, and optimizing test cases, including eliminating redundant coverage and improving test effectiveness.
  • Experience performing exploratory testing and identifying risks, edge cases, and defects beyond documented requirements.
  • Strong understanding of end-to-end system validation, integration testing, and regression testing.
  • Experience testing APIs and web services.
  • Experience designing and managing test data strategies across integrated systems, including permissions, account provisioning, role validation, and environment dependencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform technical, business, process, and data risk assessments and communicate mitigation strategies.
  • Ability to evaluate usability and customer experience across complex workflows.
  • Experience leading quality discussions and influencing technical and business decisions related to risk and release readiness.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical topics to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience assessing defect severity, business impact, and release risk while partnering with stakeholders on resolution approaches.
  • Understanding of object-oriented programming principles and modern software architecture concepts.
  • Availability for testing support outside standard business hours when required for post deploy verification.
  • Ability to work 100% on-site in Pontiac, Michigan.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in mortgage, financial services, lending, banking, or regulated industries.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies.
  • Experience identifying automation opportunities and partnering with Quality Engineers or Developers to expand automated test coverage.
  • Familiarity with Playwright, Selenium, LoadRunner, or similar automation and performance testing platforms.
  • Ability to mentor and coach less experienced Quality Analysts.
  • Experience supporting automated testing within CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience validating data warehouses, reporting platforms, ETL processes, Power BI, SSRS, or other business intelligence solutions.
  • Experience using Generative AI to support quality planning, test design, documentation, or automation efforts.
  • Knowledge of cloud-based applications and distributed system architectures.
