Position Overview

The Remote Monitoring & IT Systems Technician is responsible for supporting voestalpine Signaling's digital monitoring and railroad signaling technologies through a combination of remote system monitoring, technical support, IT administration, data analysis, and field service activities. This role serves as the primary point of contact for customer technical support and plays a key role in ensuring the reliability, performance, and availability of safety-critical monitoring systems deployed across North America.

The successful candidate will monitor system health, perform first-level diagnostics and troubleshooting, manage customer-facing backend infrastructure, and support the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of digital monitoring solutions. Working closely with customers, Field Services, Engineering, Operations, and IT teams, the technician will help identify and resolve system issues, analyze performance data, maintain accurate documentation, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

This position is ideal for a technically curious and customer-focused professional who enjoys combining IT, networking, data analysis, industrial technology, and hands-on troubleshooting in a dynamic environment. The role offers opportunities to develop expertise in railroad infrastructure, remote condition monitoring, industrial IoT technologies, networking, Linux systems, and advanced diagnostic solutions.


Responsibilities / Essential Job Functions

  • Remote monitoring of railroad and infrastructure monitoring systems
  • Customer technical support and incident management
  • Linux, Windows, networking, VPN, and database administration
  • Data analysis and performance reporting
  • Error analysis and troubleshooting of electrical, electromechanical, and mechanical systems.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of incidents, service activities, and corrective actions in ticketing and reporting systems.
  • Conduct systems level review of data delivery and quality ensuring to ensure maximum system performance.
  • Installation, commissioning, and field support of monitoring technologies
  • Cross-functional collaboration with Engineering, Operations, and Field Services
  • Support of internal IT systems and customer backend infrastructure
  • Some on-call support may be required
  • Other duties as assigned.

Travel Requirement: Up to 25% of domestic and occasional international travel for customer support, commissioning, troubleshooting, and training activities.



Requirements:

Required skills

  • Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Networking, Electronics Technology, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Must be able to read schematics, and mechanical drawings
  • Must have a high level of self-initiative and able to work independently.

  • 2+ years of experience in technical support, IT systems administration, remote monitoring, field service, or a related technical role, or equivalent experience
