The Lead IT Project Manager is an experienced project delivery leader responsible for managing complex, cross-functional IT projects from initiation through closure. This role owns the integrated project plan, governance cadence, risk and issue management, stakeholder communication, and delivery transparency required to achieve defined business outcomes. Working closely with Portfolio Managers, sponsors, Domain Leads, Enterprise Architects, technical teams, and business stakeholders, the Lead IT Project Manager translates business intent into an executable delivery approach, ensuring scope, schedule, budget, dependencies, and benefits are clearly defined, governed, and actively managed.

WHAT THE ROLE OFFERS:

Strategic Project Leadership
  • Lead complex IT projects from initiation through deployment and closure, ensuring delivery within approved scope, schedule, budget, and quality expectations.
  • Translate portfolio priorities, sponsor objectives, and business needs into clear project charters, delivery plans, milestones, dependencies, and governance structures.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams and delivery partners to drive execution, resolve blockers, and maintain alignment with business and technology objectives.
Project Governance, Planning & Controls
  • Develop and maintain integrated project plans, including workstreams, milestones, dependencies, resource assumptions, financial tracking, and delivery constraints.
  • Apply PMO methodology and Project Navigator practices to ensure required documentation, approvals, decision logs, change controls, and governance artifacts are complete and current.
  • Manage project scope through structured planning, baseline control, impact assessment, and change management discipline.
  • Support benefits definition and tracking by partnering with requestors and sponsors to clarify expected outcomes, success measures, and business value.
Project Reporting, Risk & Issue Management
  • Maintain accurate project status, health indicators, risks, issues, actions, decisions, financials, and schedule information in the approved system of record.
  • Prepare clear, decision-oriented reporting for sponsors, Portfolio Managers, SteerCo forums, and senior stakeholders, highlighting delivery progress, risks, dependencies, and required actions.
  • Proactively identify risks and issues, develop mitigation plans, escalate appropriately, and drive timely resolution across business and technical teams.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
  • Serve as the primary project delivery contact for sponsors, Domain Leads, technical teams, business stakeholders, vendors, and PMO leadership.
  • Facilitate project meetings, workshops, governance forums, and SteerCo discussions to maintain alignment, clarify decisions, and manage expectations.
  • Communicate complex project information in a concise, audience-appropriate manner, ensuring stakeholders understand progress, risks, decisions, trade-offs, and next steps.
Delivery Leadership, Mentorship & Continuous Improvement
  • Lead without direct authority by creating accountability, building trust, and enabling collaboration across cross-functional project teams.
  • Mentor Project Managers and Project Coordinators by sharing delivery practices, governance expectations, lessons learned, and practical project management guidance.
  • Drive continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned, identifying process gaps, and contributing to PMO standards, templates, reporting practices, and tool adoption.
AI-Enabled Project Delivery
  • Use AI-enabled tools to improve project planning, meeting preparation, action tracking, status reporting, risk identification, and delivery insights.
  • Apply AI responsibly within organizational governance, data protection, and security expectations, ensuring outputs are validated and used to support-not replace-sound project judgment.
  • Promote practical adoption of AI-assisted project management practices that improve productivity, consistency, visibility, and decision-making across project teams.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Business, Engineering, Project Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent education and experience considered.
  • 8+ years of progressive project management experience, preferably managing complex, cross-functional IT projects in a matrixed enterprise environment.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, project planning tools, PPM/reporting platforms, and collaboration technologies.
  • Ability to work independently, manage ambiguity, adapt to shifting priorities, and travel between sites as required.
  • Interest in AI learning and practical application of AI-enabled tools to improve planning, reporting, risk visibility, project controls, and delivery outcomes.
