We are hiring up to one (1) permanent full-time Business Analyst (IT) position working out of EPCOR Tower in Edmonton, AB.

Are you ready to support major application capital projects that address real business challenges?

As a Business Analyst (BA) with EPCOR’s Information Services team, you will work on a range of complex and engaging application initiatives within a dynamic, enterprise‑level organization. In this role, your work directly supports the resolution of business challenges by ensuring functional requirements are clearly understood, documented, and delivered throughout the system development lifecycle.

You will contribute to the success of new and existing applications while building strong working relationships and expanding your understanding of EPCOR’s operations across our North American footprint.

This position may be eligible for EPCOR’s hybrid work program. Candidates must reside in Edmonton or the surrounding area, or within a 90‑minute commute of the primary work location.

What you’d be responsible for

  • Conducting business analysis activities on medium to large application initiatives within EPCOR’s IS Major Capital portfolio.
  • Contributing to IT Major Capital project plans, ensuring alignment with EPCOR, Information Services, and Project Portfolio strategies.
  • Analyzing functional requirements to identify information needs, procedures, decisions, and data flows.
  • Evaluating and improving business and application processes, researching and recommending solutions to meet business needs.
  • Supporting the delivery of project outcomes by ensuring analysis deliverables align with SDLC standards, scope, schedule, and quality expectations.
  • Contributing to effective cross functional coordination and accountability practices, when applicable and within the role’s context and prescribed limits.
  • Developing and maintaining an understanding of business processes impacted by technology changes, ensuring compliance with policies, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Using analysis tools such as process maps, data flows, and other documentation techniques to support shared understanding.
  • Providing business analysis input and recommendations to end users and project teams across EPCOR.

What’s required to be successful

  • A degree or diploma in Business, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field is required.
  • 4+ years of experience in business analysis for IT projects in the corporate and/or utilities space.
  • Experience serving as the primary BA on medium-to-large, multi-phase IT initiatives, with ownership of requirements, stakeholder engagement, testing support, implementation activities, and business validation throughout the solution delivery lifecycle.
  • Proven success in independently leading analysis efforts with limited direction, translating ambiguous challenges into structured approaches and delivering completed outcomes.
  • Strong knowledge of the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including custom built and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solutions.
  • Experience working in Agile and/or iterative delivery environments.
  • Proficiency with standard business analysis techniques, templates, and documentation practices
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess end-to-end business processes and data flows.
  • Strong facilitation, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving technologies and changing business requirements.
  • Strong work ethic and professional approach when working in a visible Information Services environment.
  • A BA certification (or actively pursuing one), such as ECBA, CCBA, CBAP, or equivalent Business Analysis professional development is considered an asset.
  • BA experience with IT projects in the Utilities sector is considered an asset.

As the successful candidate, you bring strong IT business analysis skills and experience leading business analysis activities on medium-to-large application initiatives within an enterprise environment. You effectively gather, document, and communicate functional requirements, assess information needs and data flows, and create process and workflow documentation that helps build a common understanding among stakeholders. You are an effective communicator. You build strong relationships with end users, project teams, and technical groups, while managing multiple priorities and maintaining alignment with project scope, schedule, and quality expectations. Your expertise is complemented by a solutions-focused mindset, a talent for identifying opportunities to improve business and application processes, and a commitment to understanding how technology changes impact business operations and project outcomes.

Hours of work: 75 hours biweekly

Location: Employees are expected to work onsite at least two days per week, with the flexibility to work remotely on the remaining days.

Wage: Starting at $56.15 per hour 

  • Final Wage and Step will be determined at the time of selection and based on a combination of factors as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
