Position Summary

The Database Administrator, manages and optimizes complex, production grade database environments that support GSA’s internal HR systems. This role leads high availability design, performance tuning, automation, and database modernization efforts while ensuring security, reliability, and compliance

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain complex HR database environments across on premise, cloud, and hybrid platforms.
  • Design and implement high availability, failover, and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Perform advanced performance tuning, indexing, partitioning, and query optimization.
  • Develop automation scripts and procedures to streamline database operations.
  • Lead major database upgrades, migrations, and modernization projects.
  • Establish monitoring, alerting, and proactive maintenance strategies.
  • Mentor junior DBAs and act as a technical subject matter expert.
  • Coordinate with security teams on hardening, compliance, and data protection requirements.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  • US Citizen
  • BA/BS + 5-8 years of DBA experience, orMS + 3-5 years.
  • Progressive experience managing and optimizing large, mission critical production databases.
  • Proven success administering complex database environments and leading major database initiatives.
  • Experience across diverse database platforms and architectures (on premise, cloud, hybrid).
  • Demonstrated leadership in mentoring, project oversight, or acting as a technical SME.
