Role Overview
We are seeking an Information System Security Officer (ISSO) to oversee the cybersecurity posture for a resource management system used within a U.S. government environment. This role is responsible for implementing and maintaining the system's security architecture in accordance with government directives. The ISSO will serve as a key liaison, working with internal IT departments to ensure continuous compliance and risk mitigation for a secure, web-based management system that handles budget planning, manpower allocation, and personnel assignments.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and maintain the System Security Plan (SSP) and related authorization documentation, including continuous monitoring plans and incident response procedures.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, vulnerability scans, and security control assessments to identify and remediate threats.
  • Coordinate Certification and Accreditation (C&A) processes to achieve and sustain Authority to Operate (ATO) status.
  • Manage user access controls, authentication mechanisms, and audit logging to ensure least privilege and role-based access.
  • Respond to security incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions within established timelines.
  • Provide security awareness training to system users and maintain compliance with security standards for data handling.
  • Support system updates, patches, and enhancements by evaluating their security impact.
Required Qualifications
Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of experience in information security roles is required, with specific expertise in classified network environments. Candidates must have hands-on experience with on-premise, web-based applications in a secured and virtual environment.
Technical Skills: The individual must demonstrate knowledge of U.S. government cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., NIST SP 800-53, RMF) and familiarity with systems built on ColdFusion and Oracle.
Certifications: A relevant certification such as CISM or an equivalent is required. A CISSP is preferred but not mandatory.
