Position Overview
The Chief Procurement Officer (CPO) Contractor is a senior executive responsible for developing and leading the organization's global procurement and sourcing strategy. The CPO Contractor oversees supplier management, strategic sourcing, contract negotiations, procurement operations, cost optimization, risk management, and sustainability initiatives to ensure the organization obtains goods and services efficiently, cost-effectively, and in alignment with business objectives.
The CPO Contractor collaborates with business leaders across functions to drive value creation, improve supplier performance, strengthen supply chain resilience, and support organizational growth.
This is a contractor role with a possibility of converting to a full-time position in the future.
Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
  • Develop and execute the enterprise-wide procurement strategy aligned with corporate goals
  • Establish procurement policies, governance frameworks, and operating procedures
  • Lead procurement transformation initiatives and continuous improvement programs
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership on procurement and supply chain matters

Sourcing & Supplier Management
  • Oversee strategic sourcing and category management across all spend areas
  • Build, maintain, and optimize relationships with key suppliers and strategic partners
  • Negotiate high-value contracts, pricing agreements, and supplier terms
  • Drive supplier performance management through KPIs and regular business reviews

Financial & Cost Management
  • Identify and deliver cost savings, cost avoidance, and value creation opportunities
  • Manage procurement budgets and spending controls
  • Optimize total cost of ownership (TCO) across procurement categories
  • Support financial planning, forecasting, and budgeting processes

Risk & Compliance
  • Develop supplier risk management programs to mitigate operational, financial, geopolitical, and sustainability risks
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, legal requirements, and regulatory standards
  • Establish contingency plans and sourcing strategies for business continuity
  • Monitor supplier adherence to contractual obligations and ethical standards

Supply Chain & Operations
  • Collaborate with operations, finance, legal, and business units to ensure procurement effectiveness
  • Improve procurement processes, systems, and digital capabilities
  • Oversee procurement technology platforms, analytics, and reporting
  • Drive inventory, logistics, and supply continuity initiatives where applicable

Sustainability & ESG
  • Lead responsible sourcing and supplier diversity programs
  • Integrate Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations into procurement decisions
  • Promote ethical business practices throughout the supplier ecosystem
  • Monitor sustainability performance of suppliers and procurement activities

Leadership & Talent Development
  • Build and lead high-performing procurement teams
  • Develop talent pipelines, succession plans, and leadership capabilities
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and collaboration
  • Establish performance objectives and drive employee engagement

Required Skillsets
  • This is a Contractor/1099 role and is onsite at the client location in Sandy Springs, GA.
  • 15+ years of progressive procurement, sourcing, ITO, BPO, supply chain, or commercial leadership experience
  • 8+ years in senior leadership or executive-level procurement roles
  • Proven experience managing large-scale procurement operations and strategic supplier relationships
  • Demonstrated success in driving cost savings and procurement transformation initiatives

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Finance, Engineering, or related field
  • Master's degree (MBA or equivalent) preferred

Certifications (Preferred)
  • Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM)
  • Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (MCIPS/FCIPS)
  • Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP)
  • Lean Six Sigma certification
