Job description

The IBM iSeries Systems Engineer is responsible for supporting and administering various iSeries

processes, servers, and interfaces with other platforms such as Linux, Windows,

Oracle, Python, MS SQL, MEMSQL, etc..

The Solutions Engineer will support web applications in the areas of Apache, HTTP, and (PHP) administration as well as support and upgrades of all 3rd party applications. The Solutions Engineer is also responsible for implementation planning for Users, Applications, and other System Users.

Responsibilities and Duties:

This individual must possess a high degree of technical knowledge regarding iSeries processing, change management, software development, and associated technology tools. Programming and systems skills in CLP, RPG ILE, SQL, Power HA replication, IBM Operations Navigator, PHP, BCD Products (Nexus Portal, Presto, Websmart), Aldon/ARCAD, FTP, Windows, and Microsoft Office products are required.

The Solutions Engineer may be assigned the lead role of a temporary sub-team which is focused on a specific system project. This individual must know and work toward the relevant IT policies & procedures as well as the organizational vision that includes application system support that occurs at the enterprise level. The Solutions Engineer will work with IS and business management to implement system changes within the required accounting windows set by Accounting and follow SOX controls.

The Solutions Engineer is to be an effective resource manager in terms of personnel, hardware, software, and budget that pertain for system processing and software applications and projects including 3rd party applications. These skills also include competent estimating tasks and projects which can be expressed in terms of hours and timelines with expressed due dates.

· Provide system enhancements, modifications, performance tuning, training, and support services for assigned system projects.

· Work with IS technical resources to provide high availability monitoring and maintenance for assigned applications.

· Interact with users in various departments to prepare specifications for new application and system enhancements, modifications, and support issues. Also, prepare training materials and application documentation.

· Organize a technical project in its entirety and articulate the project as a logical sequence of executable tasks.

· Prepare formal project plans as needed, illustrating tasks, task sequence, task dependencies, estimated effort per task, due dates, and responsible parties.

· Identify a projects Critical Path and note associated risk points.

· Understand the overall system, programming, and data integration strategy in both its current state, as well as planned future state.

· Develop and supervise the proper execution of test plans for assigned projects, and coordinate end-user participation and sign-off. Provide SOX documentation as required.

· Know, practice and enforce the relevant IT policies and procedures.

· Maintain an awareness and an updated status of projects that fall within a span of responsibility.

· Work closely with IT management to ensure project approaches, auditing, processes, and adhere to system standards.

· Develop and maintain a close relationship with the IT technical staff members to properly utilize personnel in delivering information systems that support business requirements.

· Monitor and control the integrity of the system, programming, data standards, and system/application interfaces.

· Conduct periodic follow-up calls with clients that permit communication opportunities to attain feedback. Act on that feedback.

Qualifications:

· Must have 5-10 years’ experience in Information Systems.

· iSeries experience required.

· Bachelor’s degree required. Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems or Computer Science preferred.

· Specific skills.

· Required to be on-call during work and off-hours as necessary.

· May travel when necessary for system implementation and training
