Schedule: Hybrid (3 days in-office / 2 days remote)

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Director of IT Applications, the Sr Software Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, enhancement, support, and modernization of business applications running on the IBM iSeries platform. This role will work closely with business stakeholders across Supply Chain, Finance, Distribution, EDI, Sales, and Manufacturing to deliver reliable solutions that support critical enterprise processes.

The successful candidate will develop and maintain RPG-based applications while contributing to modernization initiatives through SQL, APIs, automation, and integration technologies. This individual will serve as a technical expert for IBM iSeries applications and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure scalable, maintainable, and secure solutions

Essential Role Functions:

  • Design, develop, test, implement, and support applications on the IBM iSeries platform using RPG IV, RPGLE, Free-Format RPG, SQLRPGLE, and CL. 
  • Analyze business requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions. 
  • Support and enhance mission-critical ERP, WMS, distribution, finance, and supply chain systems. 
  • Develop and maintain DB2 for iSeries database structures, SQL queries, stored procedures, and performance tuning initiatives. 
  • Create and support integrations with internal and external systems through APIs, web services, EDI, message queues, and file-based interfaces. 
  • Troubleshoot application issues and participate in root cause analysis for production support incidents. 
  • Collaborate with business users to identify process improvement opportunities and automation initiatives. 
  • Participate in code reviews and enforce development standards, security practices, and documentation requirements. 
  • Support application modernization efforts, including transitioning legacy fixed-format RPG applications to free-format RPG and service-program architectures. 
  • Work effectively within Waterfall, Agile, and hybrid project delivery environments. 
  • Mentor other software engineers and share IBM iSeries best practices.
  • Utilizes sound engineering principles to build robust, secure, scalable, and appropriately tested features and solutions from end to end.
  • Works with technologies across the entire Randa development stack.
  • Builds confidence, trust, and rapport with internal and external clients as appropriate

 Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience. 
  • 5-10 years of IBM i / AS400 development experience.

  • Experience gathering requirements directly from business stakeholders. 
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experienced with building out and maintaining metrics, alarms, and monitoring of services and application stack.
  • Excellent communication skills and understand the importance of regular communication to the entire team about business and IT roadmaps
  • Excellent problem solver where the big picture is understood and challenges are recognized before they occur; relevant information from internal and external SME’s is investigated then drive decisions and next steps to get the optimized short term to long term result for the team
  • You have successfully delivered roadmap initiatives using either Waterfall or Agile methodology
