Job description

Overview

Engineer (GXP 2026-25663):

Bowhead seeks a Engineer to join our team at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Crane, IN. The Engineer will provide technical and engineering support services to the Strategic Systems Guidance, Navigation and Control Division. 

Responsibilities

Essential functions will include: 

  • Perform duties with minimal supervision and management intervention.
  • Support the development of programmatic concepts including roles and responsibilities, schedules, metrics, coordination activities necessary to ensure proper execution of the Support Equipment programs. This includes interface with internal and external management as required to resolve programmatic issues, ensure corrective actions are instituted to correct deficiencies, support Program Management Reviews, and negotiate project expectations, deliveries, schedule, and risks.
  • Assist the Government in the technical and administrative development of the aforementioned plans and in the implementation. These plans must include the scope and purpose of the effort, an outline of recommended evaluations and analyses, testing requirements, a schedule for prototype development, production, testing and acquisition, and a POA&M.
  • Analyze, make recommendations and provide the rationale for these recommendations, and provide technical and administrative support for generation and updating of these program plans. Updated and prepared program plans must be delivered to the Government (CDRL A004).
  • Perform market research and identification of available hardware in the marketplace, work the requirements verification of identified hardware, perform incoming inspection, perform calibration verification, record key calibration data and performance parameters, perform functional verification, testing and evaluation in preparation for deployment and preparation for shipment to the field activity.
  • Conduct technical assessments of the logistic requirements for systems, subsystems, equipment, and components to ensure completeness, accuracy, and conformance to requirements using guidance from MIL-HDBK-502.
  • Provide program management support for missile system development System, Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM) Support Equipment, and Electrical Support System Refresh (SPALT) development for the Electrical Support Equipment (ESE) programs and support tasking for SSP programs SP23/27.
  • Be the single point of contact for all efforts related to the planning, organizing, budgeting and direction of the execution of the SP27 Tasking.
  • Must assist NSWC Crane supporting the SP-27 Program Office for ESE Refresh, Alterations and Updates as required for implementation support for programs supported by NSWC Crane. This will require reviewing and analyzing current SSP and NSWC Crane acquisition strategies and operations to understand where efficiencies could be realized.
  • Provide engineering support for the research and design support of SSP Support Equipment.
  • Must provide Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) support on Support Equipment development and modification efforts via Government Independent Review Team (IRT) activities.
  • Must document and report on proposed improvements to the SP23 components and/or operations for the SP23 Program. This must include engineering and technical investigations, computational analysis, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and performance simulations, market research, technology assessments, and concept formulations for improving existing or developing new capabilities.
  • Must identify and document deficiencies and discrepancies that exist within the System Requirements Documents, and work with internal and external teams to make sure that document revisions adequately remedy deficiencies and discrepancies.
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an engineering, scientific, or technical discipline.
  • Must have zero (0) to two (2) years technical experience working on high reliability systems.
  • Have sufficient hardware experience to identify and solve hardware problems associated with design, development, and integration of high reliability systems.
  • Must have knowledge of the missle sytem design and testing requirements.  Knowledge of the TRIDENT D5 (UGM-133a TRIDENT II) preferred.
  • Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the Secret level. Applicants who currently hold a Secret clearance are strongly encouraged to apply.  US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
