Objective
The Tax Resolution and Preparation Accountant is responsible for managing and resolving IRS and state tax matters on behalf of clients. This role handles tax notices, audits, penalty abatements, and compliance issues from intake through resolution. Acting as the primary liaison between clients and tax authorities, the Specialist delivers compliant, strategic solutions designed to reduce tax liabilities and restore financial stability.
This position is ideal for a CPA or Enrolled Agent who enjoys technical tax work, client advocacy, and seeing cases through to completion.
Essential Functions
  • Prepare and review complex tax returns while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
  • Analyze IRS and state tax notices, prepare accurate responses, and determine required actions for resolution.
  • Represent clients in correspondence and negotiations with the IRS and state authorities to resolve penalties, notices, and audits.
  • Collect documentation, and provide guidance on tax repayment expectations and strategies.
  • Conduct technical research to develop compliant responses and identify resolution opportunities.
  • Identify and apply for penalty abatements, tax relief programs, and settlement options.
  • Maintain accurate records of tax notice responses, resolutions, and client communications.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to support integrated tax resolution strategies.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements for handling tax notices and audit cases.
  • Educate clients on notice triggers and compliance practices to prevent recurring issues.
  • Utilize tax software and digital tools to manage client cases efficiently and compliantly.

Required Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field (preferred)
