IRS accountants are professionals who work for the Internal Revenue Service, the U.S. government agency responsible for tax collection and enforcement of tax laws. Their primary duties include examining and auditing tax returns, ensuring compliance with federal tax regulations, and investigating financial records for discrepancies or fraud. IRS accountants may also provide guidance on tax laws and help taxpayers understand their obligations.
