What is an iron and steel worker?

Iron and steel workers, also known as structural iron and steel workers, are tradespeople who install and assemble the structural frameworks for buildings, bridges, and other large structures. They work with steel beams, columns, and girders, often at great heights, to create the skeleton that supports a structure. These workers use tools such as cranes, welding machines, and torches to cut, shape, and join metal components according to engineering specifications. Safety is a significant aspect of their job due to the physical risks involved. Most iron and steel workers receive training through apprenticeships or on-the-job experience.
