As an IP Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the company's intellectual property (IP) strategy, including invention mining, patent drafting assistance, prior art search, and portfolio management. You will work closely with R&D, legal counsel, and external patent attorneys to ensure the company's innovations are effectively protected and aligned with business objectives.
This position reports to the General Counsel and will be located in Plano, TX, USA.
Responsibilities
โ€ข Collaborate with R&D teams to identify patentable inventions and facilitate invention disclosures.
โ€ข Participate in R&D teams meetings to align patent fillings with commercial roadmaps, product launches and company growth targets.
โ€ข Conduct prior art searches and provide patentability and freedom-to-operate analysis.
โ€ข Assist with internal and external patent drafting and prosecution processes.
โ€ข Maintain IP databases and generate regular reports on portfolio status.
โ€ข Monitor competitor patents and industry IP trends.
โ€ข Conduct regular competitive landscape assessments to identify competitor capabilities, new technology trends and potential R&D directions.
โ€ข Support IP litigation, licensing, and enforcement activities when needed.
โ€ข Assist in IP due diligence activities for potential partnerships, acquisitions or technology transfers.
โ€ข Provide training to engineers on IP awareness and best practices.
โ€ข Support R&D teams world-wide, including U.S. and China
Basic Qualifications
โ€ข Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
โ€ข Familiarity with patent systems in major jurisdictions (e.g., US, EP, CN).
โ€ข Excellent analytical and communication skills.
โ€ข Experience with patent search tools.
โ€ข Ability to act as a "translator" between highly technical R&D engineers and legal/business stakeholders.
โ€ข Experience in drafting high-quality invention disclosure forms and reviewing claims for clarity and breadth.
โ€ข Patent Agent qualification or IP certification is a plus.
โ€ข Fluent in English. Mandarin is a plus.
