Description

Central Garden & Pet Company is seeking a talented and innovative Principal Electrical and IoT Engineer with strong IoT and connected product experience to join our team. This role will lead the design and development of next-generation electronics and connected solutions across Central Garden & Pet’s portfolio.  You will work cross-functionally from concept through commercialization, owning electrical architecture, embedded systems, connectivity, and integration with mobile applications and cloud platforms.  Central Garden & Pet Company (NASDAQ: CENT) is a leading innovator, marketer, and producer of quality branded products for the pet, lawn, and garden markets.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead development of connected (IoT) product platforms, including hardware, firmware, and mobile app integration
  • Define and execute IoT strategy and scalable architecture
  • Develop prototypes and bring products from concept to production
  • Collaborate with software teams to develop mobile app ecosystems
  • Design and support electrical products & systems, including PCBs, sensors, power systems, and wireless connectivity
  • Establish test methods and validation protocols
  • Utilize CAD and ECAD tools to develop and validate designs
  • Troubleshoot using lab equipment
  • Communicate with cross-functional teams and external partners
  • Analyze customer feedback to improve products
  • Drive cost-effective, manufacturable designs
  • Maintain technical documentation
QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS in Electrical Engineering; MSEE preferred
  • 5–7+ years’ experience with IoT / connected devices
  • Experience with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth (BLE), embedded systems
  • Experience with mobile app integration and cloud-connected products
  • Knowledge of PCB design and power systems
  • Familiarity with SPI, I2C, UART, RS-232
  • Experience with lab test equipment
  • Experience with overseas manufacturers
  • CAD/ECAD proficiency (PTC Creo preferred)
  • Rapid prototyping experience
  • Strong project management and communication skills
Preferred
  • Consumer IoT product experience
  • Firmware experience
  • Knowledge of UL, FCC, CE
  • Battery-powered design experience
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Hours of work will generally be during regular business hours and average at least 40 hours a week in office and lab/plant environment.  There will be some variation in work hours due to special projects, deadlines, and other concerns. 
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to drive alignment and deliver key initiatives
  • PE may be required
  • Travel 5–10%
