Senior Scientist - Protein Engineering - ADC Development: Organic and Conjugation Chemist

The hybrid Modality Group in the Protein Engineering Department at Amgen is seeking a highly motivated organic chemist to join us in the state-of-the-art research facility at the Amgen headquarters campus located in Thousand Oaks, CA. The qualified candidate will work at the interface of synthetic chemistry, biochemistry, and chemical biology to apply their synthetic skills in developing ADC therapeutics and cutting-edge novel modalities.
Responsibilities including (but not limited to) the design, synthesis, purification and characterization of novel organic linkers, peptides, and payloads for antibody drug conjugates.
Design, synthesis, purification, and characterization of antibody drug conjugates for therapeutic discovery.
The scientist will review, analyze, and interpret scientific data and results; provide regular updates, documentation, and/or communication on project results.

Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities
Basic qualifications
Doctorate degree specializing in organic chemistry, biochemistry, chemical biology, medicinal chemistry OR
Master's degree and 3 years of laboratory experience OR
Bachelor's degree and 5 years of laboratory experience
Preferred qualifications
Posdoc or 2 years of synthetic chemistry experience preferred.
Experience in the synthesis and purification of ADC linker and payloads.
Experience in bioconjugation process is preferred.
Experience with peptide synthesis and purification is preferred.
A robust understanding of structural determination using NMR and MS techniques and proficient with a range of chromatography methods (e.g. HPLC, RP HPLC, ion exchange, size exclusion chromatography)
Demonstration of good lab practices, with particular attention to safety
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work comfortably within a large team of scientists and engineers with diverse technical and cultural backgrounds.
