What is an invitation design?

An Invitation Design job involves creating visually appealing and well-structured invitations for various events such as weddings, parties, corporate gatherings, and more. Designers use graphic design software to craft layouts, choose fonts, colors, and images that suit the occasion and client preferences. They may work as freelancers, for event planning companies, or within design agencies. Strong creativity, attention to detail, and knowledge of printing specifications are essential for success in this role.

What does a typical workday look like for an invitation designer?

A typical day for an Invitation Designer involves meeting with clients to discuss their vision and event details, creating design drafts and mood boards, and refining concepts based on feedback. The role includes time spent using design software for layout and illustration, coordinating with printers or production vendors, and managing multiple projects simultaneously to meet deadlines. Collaboration is common, especially with event planners, copywriters, and sometimes marketing teams to ensure the final invitation aligns with the overall event theme and branding. Many Invitation Designers work in a studio environment, though freelance and remote opportunities are also common.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in invitation design, and why are they important?

To thrive in Invitation Design, you need strong graphic design skills, a keen eye for aesthetics, and proficiency in typography and layout, often supported by a relevant degree or portfolio of work. Familiarity with design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and experience with digital and print production workflows are typically essential. Excellent communication, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret client wishes creatively are crucial soft skills. These capabilities ensure that invitation designers can produce visually appealing and personalized designs that meet client needs and industry standards.

Job description

STOP: This is an invitation-only application. DO NOT APPLY unless you have received a direct invitation email from PTP. Applications submitted without an invitation will not be reviewed.

Time Commitment: 15 or 30 hours per week

Compensation: $250/week (15 hrs) or $500/week (30 hrs)

Program Dates: June-November 7, 2026 (start dates vary by campaign)

About the Program

The Progressive Turnout Project (PTP) Campaign Fellows Program expands Democratic voter turnout by placing trained fellows into priority campaigns.

After being identified by a selected campaign or partner organization (e.g., party/legislative committee or campaign committee), Fellows are hired and paid by PTP and to strengthen field operations in key districts. Fellows focus on direct voter contact-especially door-to-door canvassing-to mobilize Democratic voters and increase turnout where it matters most.

This program combines paid field experience, structured training, and real electoral impact, making it one of the most hands-on ways to work on competitive campaigns.

Fellows play a direct role in increasing turnout in competitive districts that determine control of state legislatures and Congress.

What You'll Do

Field Work (Core Responsibility)

  • Knock doors and have conversations with voters to increase Democratic turnout
  • Communicate campaign messaging clearly, respectfully, and persuasively
  • Record voter data accurately using campaign tools (e.g., MiniVAN)
  • Meet weekly goals for voter contact, turf completion, and data reporting

Campaign Integration

  • Work within the assigned field program led by the partner organization or campaign
  • Support staging locations, canvass launches, and volunteer efforts
  • Build relationships with organizers, staff, and fellow canvassers
  • Receive day-to-day direction from the partner organization's field team

PTP Program Responsibilities

  • Submit a weekly report tracking voter contact metrics and field activity
  • Participate in PTP trainings, check-ins, and program requirements
  • Maintain consistent communication with PTP staff

What You'll Gain

  • Direct campaign experience in competitive elections
  • Hands-on training in voter persuasion, turnout strategy, and field operations
  • Exposure to data-driven organizing and campaign infrastructure
  • A strong foundation for future roles in campaigns, advocacy, or public service
  • Opportunity to contribute to electing Democrats and defending democracy

Who This Role Is For

You'll be a strong fit if you:

  • Are 18+ and authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Are comfortable having conversations with voters at the door
  • Are motivated by electoral impact and increasing Democratic turnout
  • Can commit to a consistent weekly schedule through Election Day
  • Are organized, responsive, and able to manage multiple responsibilities
  • Are comfortable using tools like Google Suite and campaign apps

Important Notes

  • Fellows are part-time employees of PTP, not the campaign/partner organization
  • Fellows are assigned to support a partner organization's field program, which may deploy them across targeted districts
  • Schedules, locations, and responsibilities may shift based on campaign needs

How to Apply

To become a PTP Fellow, you must be recruited or referred by a participating campaign or partner organization.

If you're interested, connect with participating campaigns or partner organizations in your area, or contact PTP for more information.

Questions about the role may be directed to fellows-program-staff@turnoutpac.org
