Department Overview

The Americas Division (โ€œADโ€) was established in the Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, Limited, New York Branch) (โ€œSMTBNYโ€) to perform corporate functions and supervise U.S. entities. Established under the AD are the โ€œGlobal Banking Unit (โ€œGBUโ€), Americas Divisionโ€ and โ€œGlobal Markets Unit (โ€œGMUโ€), Americas Divisionโ€ which performs business functions. The Business Development Department (โ€œBDDโ€) is responsible providing Asset Management related business and support high level networking with other financial institutions on Asset Management and related matters. BDD focuses on developing and achieving New York Branch Asset Management and related business objectives.


Your Role Overview

Responsible for supporting manager research activities and related operational functions within the department, covering the asset management industry, asset managers, and their investment products. Work closely with team members and senior management to deliver research, reporting materials, and administrative support, while maintaining internal data and coordinating with external stakeholders. Contribute to efficient team operations through meeting coordination, documentation, and departmental administration, including fee processing and IT setup support, in order to facilitate effective investment research and overall business operations.


Your Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Support team members in conducting research and analysis on the asset management industry, asset managers, and their investment products, including the use of external databases.
  2. Support team members in creating materials such as performance reports, strategy presentations, and industry reports, including chart creation and drafting of content.
  3. Provide ad-hoc support to team members and/or senior management as needed, including assistance with urgent requests, preparation of materials, and coordination of internal and external communications.
  4. Perform data entry and maintenance of internal databases relating to the asset management industry, asset managers, and investment products.
  5. Coordinate meetings with asset managers and other relevant parties, including scheduling and logistical arrangements. Provide in-meeting support such as hospitality and assistance. Prepare, document, and maintain meeting records.
  6. Prepare internal approval documents. Coordinate business travel arrangements including bookings. Process expense reimbursements, including those for other team members.
  7. Administer fee calculations and perform related operational tasks within the department. Lead and support administrative functions associated with manager research and departmental activities, including IT software and infrastructure setup support for team members.
  8. Liaise and coordinate with relevant departments in Tokyo regarding the above activities.


Your Qualifications:

  1. Bachelorโ€™s degree required. A degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Accounting, or a related field, or an equivalent academic background, is preferred.
  2. Business-level proficiency in both Japanese and English, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  3. Good quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  4. Ability to support team members in preparing materials and responding to internal and external requests.
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook).
  6. Responsible for compliance in area of responsibility. Identifies and understands the risks and laws involved in the department's operations.
