Employment Type:  Permanent

Location: FinDev Canada headquarters is in downtown Montreal. For the right candidate, Ottawa or Toronto will be considered, with the flexibility to work under a hybrid model, with a current requirement of three in-office days per week (subject to change).

  • Investments 18: Salaries typically range from $96,557 - $160,927 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive.

Team Overview 

FinDev Canada's Investments Team is responsible for managing and expanding our portfolio of direct and indirect investments across our chosen priority sectors and our countries of operation.

The Investments team's core tasks consist of business development, transaction processing, and asset management, and it is accountable for meeting FinDev Canada's portfolio growth targets.

FinDev Canada is seeking a an Investment Officer to join the FinDev Canada Investments team. The Investment Officer will develop and maintain excellent client and partner relationships to build a robust pipeline of bankable transactions within the Funds sector. The successful candidate will be expected to bring their prior experience and hit the ground running to contribute to our goals and play a key role in the evolution and continuous improvement of FinDev Canada's practices and processes.

What You Will Be Doing 

Business Development & Origination

  • Identify, originate, and develop new investment opportunities in the Private Equity Funds sector.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, partners, fund managers, and industry stakeholders.
  • Develop a robust pipeline of investable opportunities.

End-to-End Transaction Leadership

  • Lead the full transaction lifecycle, including origination, due diligence, structuring, negotiation, investment recommendation, closing and monitoring.
  • Assess transaction risks and present recommendations to internal stakeholders and committees.
  • Negotiate commercial terms and documentation.

Portfolio Management

  • Actively manage a portfolio of fund investments and client relationships.
  • Monitor fund performance and emerging risks.
  • Validate draw down requests and monitor compliance with legal agreements.
  • Prepare quarterly valuation reports.
  • Conduct annual portfolio reviews and recommend mitigating actions where required.
  • Lead or contribute towards active LP engagements with Fund Managers to mitigate transactions risks.
  • Drive proactive client engagement and asset management activities.

Leadership & Influence

  • Engage regularly with senior management and internal stakeholders across FinDev Canada.
  • Represent FinDev Canada at industry conferences and events.
  • Mentor and coach junior investment professionals.
What We Are Looking For 
  • CFA, MBA, MSc in Finance, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant post-MBA investment experience working with Financial [EB5.1]Intermediaries, preferably in developing markets.
  • Demonstrated experience originating, structuring, negotiating, and closing fund investment transactions.
  • Strong understanding of investment risk assessment and mitigation strategies.
  • Strong financial, analytical and credit skills;
  • Proven ability to independently manage client relationships and fund investment portfolios.
  • Strong networking and business development capabilities.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Fluent proficiency in English.
What Will Make You Stand Out 
  • Experience working with Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) or Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs).
  • Deep understanding of economic and development challenges in emerging and developing markets.
  • Regional experience in Latin America, the Caribbean, Indo-Pacific, and/or Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Strong knowledge of sustainable development and impact investing principles.
  • Proficiency in French and/or Spanish.
