Job description


The Workplace Investigator is responsible for conducting prompt, thorough, and impartial investigations into allegations of workplace misconduct, including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, policy violations, ethics concerns, and other employee complaints. This position manages sensitive and complex matters while maintaining strict confidentiality, objectivity, and compliance with applicable laws, company policies, and investigative standards. This position is fully onsite at our office located in Lake Oswego, Oregon.
Salary Range: $80,000 - $110,000 depending on experience.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Plan and conduct comprehensive workplace investigations involving allegations of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, policy violations, and other misconduct in accordance with established protocols and legal requirements.
  • Develop investigation plans, conduct thorough interviews with complainants, respondents, and witnesses, and collect relevant documentation and evidence while maintaining appropriate confidentiality and sensitivity.
  • Prepare formal investigation reports with factual chronologies, evidence summaries, credibility assessments, policy analysis, and well-reasoned findings that can withstand scrutiny and potential legal challenges.
  • Identify and flag potential legal issues that arise during investigations and work with the counsel to address complex or high-risk situations.
  • Collaborate with managers to identify root causes of workplace issues and provides recommendation for corrective action, process improvements, and preventative measures.
  • Develop and deliver training for leaders and departments on complaint intake, documentation, retaliation prevention, respectful workplace expectations, the organization's investigation process and other employment related topics.

Qualifications:
Professional Experience and Education
  • Professional certifications in workplace investigations, human resources (SHRM- CP/SHRM-SCP, PHR/SPHR, AWI) preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Employment Law, Industrial Relations, or a related field preferred.
  • Two (2) to five (5) years of experience conducting workplace investigations, employee relations investigations, compliance investigations, human resources, legal, or a related field required.
  • Experience conducting investigations in a construction, manufacturing, or unionized environment preferred.
  • Professional certification such as AWI Certificate Holder, SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP or equivalent investigative certification preferred.
  • Working knowledge of employment laws relating to discrimination, harassment, retaliation, accommodations, leave administration, and workplace conduct preferred.

Position Related Skills
  • Proficient in Windows, Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams), and have a general understanding of working within a computer network.
  • Ability to work with and around confidential information.
  • Reliable team player; committed to being on time and working scheduled hours.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple cases, and prioritize effectively in a fast-moving environment.
  • Strong verbal communication and interviewing skills, with the ability to navigate emotionally charged conversations with professionalism and empathy.
  • Strong understanding of employment-related policies, workplace conduct expectations, and relevant regulatory considerations.
  • Ability to conduct investigation interviews in Spanish is preferred.

Physical and Mental Requirements:
  • Standing/Walking/Sitting: Workday is a combination of standing, walking and sitting.
  • Must be able to climb stairs: 5% of the day.
  • Hands/Arms: Constant use of hands/fingers for mouse/keyboard/computer use.
  • Sight: Visual acuity in near, mid, and far range vision. Color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, hand/eye coordination.
  • Hearing: Sufficient to hear conversational levels in person and over the telephone.
  • Speech: Sufficient to make oneself heard in person, speak in front of groups, and be understood over the telephone.
  • Lift/Carry: Up to 25Ibs - Minimal.
  • Bending/Twisting: Minimal.
  • Kneeling/Crouching/Crawling: Minimal.
  • Constant mental alertness, accuracy, and attention to detail required.
  • Must be able to work independently, make decisions, and follow through on all assignments.
  • Must use creativity, independent judgment, and organizational and problem-solving skills to determine the best method to accomplish desired results.
  • Must be able to plan and organize work.
  • Must possess strong organizational and computer use skills and have a high level of competency to read/write/speak English, interpret construction related documentation and communicate with coworkers.
  • Travel- up to 25% of time
