As a Lead Inventory Associate, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring operational excellence across all inventory processes at CarMax. This position combines hands-on inventory management with leadership responsibilities, making it ideal for individuals who thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments. You will coordinate daily tasks, maintain high-quality standards, and deliver exceptional customer service, all while supporting the Reconditioning Production Manager. Your efforts will directly impact the accuracy, security, and presentation of our vehicles, ensuring every customer experiences the CarMax difference.

Role Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate Inventory Associates to execute daily operational tasks efficiently.
  • Maintain display areas and work-in-process zones to ensure cleanliness, organization, and security.
  • Oversee vehicle receiving, scanning, and reconciliation for accurate inventory records.
  • Conduct cosmetic inspections and verify saleable inventory meets company standards and prepare vehicles for customer delivery, ensuring compliance with CarMax Final Quality Standards
  • Facilitate vehicle movement on and off the lot, supporting operational flow.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service and act as a resource for associates and customers.
  • Follow CarMax Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) requirements and maintain a clean and orderly work area.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to read, interpret, and transcribe data for accurate record-keeping.
  • Proven capability to collaborate across departments and lead team efforts effectively.
  • Skilled at managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in varied conditions, including outdoor environments.
  • Excellent communication skills, both in person and over the phone.
  • Completion of CarMax training in all inventory functions, enabling cross-training and full departmental coverage.
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts as needed.

The hourly rate for this position is:

$19.20 - $30.70

Benefits:

Except as otherwise required by state law, CarMax Associates are entitled to the following paid sick, vacation, and holiday time.

Associates that are considered full-time hourly or commission/incentive eligible:

  • To earn up to 48 hours of sick time per year accrued on a per pay period basis and between 80 hours and 200 hours per year of vacation time after a 90 day waiting period depending on years of continuous service with the Company. 
  • For 8 hours of pay for each of a total of 6 paid scheduled holidays per year plus 1 floating holiday.  If such an Associate does work on a scheduled holiday due to business need, they are eligible for Holiday Premium Pay. 

Associates considered full-time salaried are entitled to paid time away with no specified limit as needed for sick, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, floating holiday, etc. subject to manager approval.
