What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Inventory Control Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Inventory Control Specialist, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of inventory management practices, often supported by a high school diploma or relevant certification. Familiarity with inventory management software (like SAP or Oracle), barcode systems, and Microsoft Excel is typically required. Excellent organizational skills, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication help you stand out in this role. These skills ensure accurate stock levels, minimize losses, and support efficient operations within supply chain and warehouse environments.

Is inventory control a good career?

Inventory control is a viable career that involves managing stock levels, tracking inventory using software, and ensuring accurate record-keeping. It often requires attention to detail, organizational skills, and knowledge of supply chain processes, making it suitable for individuals interested in logistics and operations. Job stability and opportunities for advancement can vary depending on the industry and company size.

What are some common challenges faced in an Inventory Control role, and how can they be managed?

One common challenge in Inventory Control is accurately tracking stock levels in real time, especially when dealing with high product volumes or multiple storage locations. This can lead to discrepancies between physical and recorded inventory, impacting order fulfillment and restocking. To manage these challenges, professionals often utilize inventory management software, conduct regular cycle counts, and collaborate closely with warehouse and purchasing teams. Strong communication and attention to detail are essential for identifying issues early and maintaining a smooth workflow.

What jobs pay $2000 a day?

Jobs that can pay $2000 a day typically include high-level roles such as executive management, specialized medical professionals, certain consulting positions, and skilled trades like commercial pilots or project managers in large projects. These roles often require extensive experience, advanced certifications, or specialized skills, and may involve long hours or high responsibility levels.

What are the duties of an inventory control job?

An inventory control job involves monitoring stock levels, tracking inventory movement, conducting regular audits, and maintaining accurate records using inventory management systems. The role requires attention to detail, organizational skills, and often the use of barcode scanners or software to ensure inventory accuracy and prevent shortages or overstocking.

What are the 4 types of inventory control?

In inventory control, the four main types are perpetual, periodic, ABC analysis, and just-in-time (JIT). Perpetual inventory uses real-time tracking, while periodic updates inventory levels at specific intervals. ABC analysis categorizes inventory based on value, and JIT minimizes stock by receiving goods only as needed, all of which are essential skills for inventory control professionals.

Job description

SVS Group currently is seeking an exceptionally detail-orientedย Inventory Control Specialistย in the N. Phoenix/ Anthem AZ area to manage and optimize our curated furniture and decor inventory across our warehouse and flex spaces. This is a critical role in our luxury home staging operationsโ€”our inventory is the backbone of our ability to deliver flawless design installations for high-end residential properties throughout the Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Paradise Valley markets.

The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, meticulous, and demonstrates obsessive attention to detail. You will work in a fast-paced environment where precision directly impacts our client relationships and our reputation for excellence. If you thrive on order, accuracy, and maintaining systems that others depend on, this role is for you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inventory Management & Accuracy:ย Monitor and maintain precise inventory levels across our warehouse and flex spaces to ensure product availability, prevent stockouts, and minimize overstock. Our staging projects cannot proceed without reliable inventory dataโ€”accuracy is non-negotiable.
  • Team Leadership:ย Supervise and manage a team of 2โ€“3 warehouse associates, setting clear expectations for accuracy, productivity, and adherence too our quality and organizational standards. Foster accountability and attention to detail at all levels.
  • Receiving & Inspection:ย Receive, inspect, and meticulously log all incoming shipments of furniture and decor, verifying quantities, product conditions, and specifications against purchase orders. Document any discrepancies or damage immediately.
  • Cycle Counts & Physical Audits:ย Conduct regular cycle counts and comprehensive physical inventory audits. Investigate and resolve all discrepancies with precision and urgency, ensuring inventory records remain 100% accurate.
  • Organization & Labeling:ย Organize and label all products in the warehouse using our established storage and coding procedures. Maintain systems that maximize space efficiency, picking accuracy, and ease of locating items for staging projects.
  • Condition Assessment & Disposition:ย Identify slow-moving, damaged, or unstageable products and coordinate appropriate action (removal, repair, return, or resale through Market). Document all decisions and maintain clear records.
  • Bay Audits & Spot Checks:ย Perform regular bay audits, cycle counts, and random spot checks to verify inventory accuracy and quickly identify discrepancies before they impact staging schedules.
  • Record Keeping & Reporting:ย Maintain accurate, real-time records inย Fishbowl Onlineย (our primary inventory management system) and generate regular reports on stock levels, shrinkage, fulfillment metrics, and inventory health. Reports support business planning and financial forecasting.
  • Forecasting & Coordination:ย Work with purchasing and design teams to forecast inventory needs based on sales trends, seasonal demand, and upcoming staging projects. Communicate proactively about potential shortages or needs.
  • Warehouse Standards:ย Ensure the warehouse and flex spaces are organized, clean, and fully compliant with safety and operational standards at all times. Maintain systems that reflect our commitment to excellence.
  • Returns Processing:ย Assist in receiving, inspecting, and processing customer returns and post-staging inventory. Assess condition and determine appropriate restocking, repair, or disposition through Market.
  • Cross-Functional Communication:ย Communicate proactively and professionally with management, design teams, purchasing, and sales regarding inventory levels, issues, delays, or fulfillment concerns. Provide timely alerts to prevent project delays.

What We're Looking For

Detail-Oriented & Organized
You take obsessive pride in accuracy. You catch discrepancies others miss, maintain meticulous records, and have systems in place to prevent errors before they happen. You understand that in luxury home staging, small mistakes compound into client dissatisfaction.

Fishbowl Inventory & Warehouse Systems
Demonstrated experience with inventory management software (QuickBooks, NetSuite, or equivalent e-commerce inventory tools) is highly preferred. You are comfortable learning and optimizing our systems. Technical proficiency with data entry and reporting is essential.

Leadership & Accountability
You can supervise and motivate a small team, set clear expectations, and hold people accountable to standards. You lead by exampleโ€”your own precision sets the tone for your team.

Communication Skills
You communicate clearly and professionally with warehouse staff, design teams, purchasing, and leadership. You provide timely updates on inventory issues and coordinate effectively across departments to prevent bottlenecks.

Reliability & Punctuality
You are dependable, punctual, and committed to consistency. Some Saturdays may be required based on operational and seasonal needs. You show up, ready to work, every day.

Physical Capability
You are comfortable standing for extended periods and able to lift, move, and organize items ranging from 10โ€“50+ lbs in a warehouse environment.

Problem-Solving & Proactivity
You don't just report problemsโ€”you anticipate them and solve them. You take ownership and think ahead about how inventory decisions impact our clients and our team.

Luxury Mindset
You understand and respect that our inventory represents high-end design pieces. You take pride in maintaining, organizing, and showcasing these items as if they were your own. You get the "why" behind precision in a luxury business.

What makes this role special:

  • You will directly impact the success of high-end design projects and client relationships
  • You'll work with beautiful, curated furniture and decor in a luxury brand environment
  • Your inventory expertise supports our strategic initiatives, including Market (our virtual furniture resale platform)
  • You'll be part of a small, close-knit team where your contributions are visible and valued
  • Clear growth opportunities as we expand our operations
