Job description

Position Summary

The Materials General Foreman is responsible for overseeing field material operations and supporting the Materials Manager in the execution of inventory control, logistics coordination, and material distribution activities. This role ensures materials are properly received, stored, tracked, and delivered to support project timelines efficiently and cost effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily material handling and logistics operations across job sites or yard locations
  • Support the Materials Manager in planning, organizing, and executing material control strategies
  • Ensure accurate tracking of inventory, receipts, issues, and transfers using Excel and company systems
  • Monitor material usage to minimize waste and prevent shortages or overstock situations
  • Coordinate deliveries, pickups, and transportation of materials and equipment
  • Oversee loading/unloading activities and ensure proper handling procedures are followed
  • Maintain organized and efficient storage areas, yards, and warehouses
  • Lead and direct material handlers, drivers, and support personnel
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Communicate effectively with project teams, vendors, and logistics providers
  • Identify and resolve material discrepancies or issues in a timely manner
  • Generate and maintain reports related to inventory levels, usage, and material status

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in materials management, logistics, or warehouse supervision (construction or industrial environment preferred)
  • Previous leadership or foreman-level experience required
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (tracking, reporting, data management)
  • Solid computer skills, including experience with inventory or ERP systems
  • Strong organizational and problem solving abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and team leadership skills
