What is intuition in a professional context?

In a professional context, intuition refers to the ability to understand or know something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning. People who rely on intuition, sometimes called intuitionists, often make decisions based on their 'gut feelings' or instinctive understanding of a situation. While intuition is not a specific job title, it is a valuable skill in many professions, such as leadership, counseling, creative industries, and entrepreneurship. Intuitive professionals can quickly assess situations, identify patterns, and make decisions when data is incomplete or ambiguous. However, intuition should ideally be balanced with rational analysis to ensure sound decision-making.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in roles that rely on intuition?

I'm sorry, but 'Intuition' is not a recognized professional job title; please provide a real-world occupation for an accurate response.

What are the common challenges faced by professionals in roles that rely heavily on intuition?

Professionals in roles that require strong intuition, like creative strategists or product designers, often face challenges in justifying their decisions to stakeholders who prefer data-driven approaches. Balancing gut feelings with measurable insights can be difficult, and it is important to communicate the rationale behind intuitive choices clearly. Additionally, working in collaborative environments means that intuitive ideas must be integrated with team feedback and organizational goals, which can sometimes lead to compromise or iteration. Building trust with colleagues and decision-makers is crucial for ensuring that intuitive insights are valued within the team.

What is the difference between Intuition vs Data Analyst?

AspectIntuitionData Analyst
Required CredentialsNone specific, often self-taught or experientialBachelor's degree in statistics, data science, or related field
Work EnvironmentInformal, often in creative or strategic rolesStructured, data-driven environments in various industries
Industry UsageUsed across many fields for decision-makingPrimarily in finance, marketing, healthcare, and tech
Search & Comparison IntentUnderstanding decision-making skillsUnderstanding data analysis skills and roles

While intuition involves making decisions based on gut feelings and experience, a data analyst relies on data collection, analysis, and interpretation. Both skills are valuable, but data analysts use structured methods and tools to support their insights, whereas intuition is more subjective and experience-based.

What are some careers that require intuition?

Careers such as psychologists, detectives, surgeons, and marketing strategists often rely on intuition to make quick decisions and interpret complex information. These roles benefit from strong observational skills, pattern recognition, and the ability to assess situations beyond explicit data. Developing intuition can enhance decision-making in high-pressure or uncertain environments.

Job description

About Applied Intuition

Applied Intuition, Inc. is powering the future of physical AI. Founded in 2017 and now valued at $15 billion, the Silicon Valley company is creating the digital infrastructure needed to bring intelligence to every moving machine on the planet. Applied Intuition services the automotive, defense, trucking, construction, mining and agriculture industries in three core areas: tools and infrastructure, operating systems, and autonomy. Eighteen of the top 20 global automakers, as well as the United States military and its allies, trust the companyโ€™s solutions to deliver physical intelligence. Applied Intuition is headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, with offices in Washington, D.C.; San Diego; Ft. Walton Beach, Florida; Ann Arbor, Michigan; London; Stuttgart; Munich; Stockholm; Bangalore; Seoul; and Tokyo. Learn more at applied.co.

We are an inโ€‘office company, and our expectation is that employees primarily work from their Applied Intuition office 5 days a week. However, we also recognize the importance of flexibility and trust our employees to manage their schedules responsibly. This may include occasional remote work, starting the day with morning meetings from home before heading to the office, or leaving earlier when needed to accommodate family commitments.

About the role

(We are hiring for all levels of experience.) We are looking for bright QA engineers interested in ensuring the success of cuttingโ€‘edge solutions to difficult problems in the autonomy space. Our QA engineers work across our suite of products, tackling difficult fullโ€‘stack problems as the last line of defense. At Applied, we encourage all engineers to take ownership over technical and product decisions, closely interact with users to collect feedback, and contribute to a thoughtful, dynamic team culture. You will be joining a small, dynamic team. We are looking for generalists and problem solvers, not people who expect the same work day to day.

At Applied Intuition, you will:

  • Create test scripts to automate the testing process and streamline overall design and performance verification testing

  • Collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and engineering managers to build detailed test programs for our products that push the frontier of AV software development

  • Conduct and analyze test results and be responsible for critical performance of feature releases and updates

  • Triage autonomy results, identify issues across autonomy software and vehicle hardware, and drive fixes across the team

  • Own the signโ€‘off of test results, analysis, and reports for ongoing improvements of testing requirements

We're looking for someone who has:

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Software, Electrical, Physics, Mathematics, or similar engineering field

  • General knowledge on software testing

  • Good communication and organizational skills and the ability to be proactive

  • High level of professionalism to nurture an egoโ€‘free culture

Nice to have:

  • Prior experience with either AV simulation or vehicle simulation

  • Handsโ€‘on experience testing, troubleshooting, or debugging complex software systems

Compensation at Applied Intuition for eligible roles includes base salary, equity, and benefits. Base salary is a single component of the total compensation package, which may also include equity in the form of options and/or restricted stock units, comprehensive health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance coverage, 401k retirement benefits with employer match, learning and wellness stipends, and paid time off. Note that benefits are subject to change and may vary based on jurisdiction of employment.

Applied Intuition pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum intended target base salary for new hire salaries for the position. The actual base salary offered to a successful candidate will additionally be influenced by a variety of factors including experience, credentials & certifications, educational attainment, skill level requirements, interview performance, and the level and scope of the position.

Please reference the job postingโ€™s subtitle for where this position will be located. For pay transparency purposes, the base salary range for this fullโ€‘time position in the location listed is: $100,000 - $170,000 USD annually.
