Description
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Design, modify, and maintain injection molds, foam molds, fixtures, and related production tooling using 3D CAD software.
  • Develop mold concepts including gating, venting, cooling circuits, ejection systems, parting lines, and other tooling details.
  • Review customer part designs and recommend improvements to manufacturability, tool life, cycle time, and product quality.
  • Perform Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews and collaborate with customers on product and tooling improvements.
  • Coordinate tooling activities with customers, toolmakers, molders, suppliers, and internal departments from concept through production launch.
  • Support mold trials, first article inspections, engineering changes, corrective actions, validation activities, and production launches.
  • Troubleshoot tooling and molding issues involving tool wear, dimensional concerns, cooling, venting, gating, molding defects, and cycle time.
  • Maintain tooling drawings, engineering records, revision histories, and project documentation.
  • Assist with tooling cost estimates, concept development, project schedules, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret policies, procedures, engineering drawings, customer specifications, and technical information.
  • Respond effectively to inquiries and communicate appropriately with customers, suppliers, and coworkers verbally and in writing.
  • Work effectively within a team environment, take directions from a supervisor or manager, and adjust priorities based on customer and business needs.
  • Maintain excellent attendance and dependability.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Work experience: 3+ years of experience in injection mold design, foam mold design, tooling engineering, or a similar position.
  • Education: High School Diploma required. Associate degree or technical certification in tool design, mechanical design, manufacturing technology, engineering technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Computer skills: Proficient with Microsoft Office and 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, NX, AutoCAD, or an equivalent platform.
  • Technical skills: Ability to create and interpret detailed engineering drawings and GD&T. Working knowledge of injection molding and foam molding processes, mold construction, mold steels, aluminum tooling, shrink factors, cooling systems, and tooling requirements.
  • Organization skills: Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, multitask, and shift priorities as needed.
  • Cross-functional skills: Ability to work effectively with interdepartmental teams and provide excellent internal and external customer service.
  • Communication skills: Excellent written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
  • Problem-solving skills: Strong tooling and process troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify root causes and provide practical, easily understood solutions.

PREFERRED SKILLS
  • Experience designing multi-cavity molds, family molds, and complex tooling systems.
  • Experience with hot runner systems, including system selection, application, maintenance considerations, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience designing and troubleshooting cooling circuits, gating systems, venting, and ejection mechanisms.
  • Familiarity with mold flow analysis software and process simulation tools.
  • Understanding of scientific molding principles, process validation, cavity pressure sensors, and pressure transducers.
  • Knowledge of wire EDM, sinker EDM, electrode design considerations, and other tool manufacturing processes.
  • Experience working directly with tool shops and tooling suppliers on design reviews, tool builds, repairs, and engineering changes.
  • Experience with tooling transfers, first article activities, validation, and production launch support.
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting molds on the production floor.
  • High level of professionalism, positive attitude, and ability to communicate effectively at all levels of an organization.
  • Aptitude for problem solving and determining effective solutions for customers.
  • Ability to prioritize a range of tasks based on timing, customer needs, and business needs.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Manufacturing/Design experience required.
