Job Summary
The Interventional Radiology (IR) Registered Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care to patients undergoing minimally invasive, image-guided procedures. This role integrates circulator, pre- and post-operative, and sedation nursing responsibilities to ensure patient safety, procedural efficiency, and high-quality outcomes throughout the continuum of care.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Perform pre-procedure assessments including review of medical history, labs, allergies, medications, and NPO status.
• Verify patient identity, consent, and procedural details.
• Start IV lines, draw labs, and administer pre-procedure medications.
• Provide patient and family education, emotional support, and post-discharge instructions.
• Circulate during interventional procedures, maintaining sterile technique and assisting the procedural team.
• Administer and monitor moderate sedation per physician orders and institutional protocols.
• Continuously monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythm, respiratory status, and patient response during procedures.
• Recognize and respond promptly to adverse reactions or complications.
• Prepare and administer contrast media as authorized.
• Manage post-procedure recovery, including monitoring for complications and discharge readiness.
• Ensure availability and functionality of sedation and emergency equipment.
• Communicate effectively with physicians, technologists, anesthesia, and ancillary departments.
• Document all aspects of patient care accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Carolina
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in interventional radiology, critical care, PACU, or emergency nursing preferred
• Experience with procedural sedation and recovery protocols preferred
• EMR proficiency (EPIC or similar systems preferred)
Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand for extended periods and assist with patient transfers and positioning
• Capacity to work in a fast-paced procedural environment
• Exposure to imaging equipment and radiation (PPE and safety protocols provided)
