Job Description

Providing interpreting, translation, and transliteration services in American Sign Language and other visual and tactual communication forms used by individuals who are Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and Deaf-Blind.
Ensuring that the spoken language message reaches the Deaf consumer in a language or communication form that he or she can understand, and that the Deaf consumer's message is conveyed successfully in the spoken language.
Providing American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation to meet the communications requirements of Governmental environments and the general public throughout the continental United States.
Providing guidance regarding effective communication access in all phases of program development and execution.
Working collaboratively and providing guidance to Federal Coordinating Officer, Agency Coordinator, External Affairs, and other program areas that interface with the community.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must possess ALL of the following experience:

  • Experience providing American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting for the disability community and service delivery programs.
  • RID - National Certification. This includes NIC, CI, CT, CI/CT, CDI, SC:L, and OIC (Oral Interpreting Certification). An explanation about those certifications can be found at http://www.rid.org
  • NAD - National Certification - includes Level 5 (highest level) through Level 3 (generalist). For more information see: https://www.nad.org

You must be a U.S. citizen to be considered for this position.

  • You must be able to obtain and maintain a Government Security Access Card.
