What is an Interoperability job?

An Interoperability job focuses on ensuring that different systems, applications, or devices can communicate and work together seamlessly. Professionals in this field develop and implement standards, protocols, and integration strategies to enable data exchange across platforms. They often work in industries like healthcare, IT, and finance, where system connectivity is critical. Their responsibilities may include API management, data mapping, and troubleshooting integration issues.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Interoperability position, and why are they important?

To excel in an Interoperability role, you need expertise in data integration, healthcare information exchange standards (such as HL7, FHIR, or EDI), and project management, often backed by a degree in health informatics, computer science, or related fields. Familiarity with integration engines (like Mirth Connect or Cloverleaf), APIs, data mapping tools, and relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Health Data Analyst, HL7 certification) is highly valued. Strong analytical thinking, effective communication, and problem-solving abilities are important soft skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and addressing connectivity challenges. These skills are crucial to ensure seamless data exchange and system compatibility within complex healthcare or enterprise environments.

What are the main challenges faced by professionals working in Interoperability roles?

Professionals in Interoperability roles often encounter challenges related to aligning disparate systems, managing data standards, and ensuring secure and accurate information exchange across platforms. They must troubleshoot issues caused by variations in data formats or inconsistent implementation of protocols, all while collaborating closely with IT, clinical, and vendor teams. Effective communication and a strong understanding of both technical requirements and organizational workflows are essential for resolving these challenges. Overcoming these obstacles is vital to support seamless data flows, which greatly enhances patient care and operational efficiency.

Job description

Onsite Requirement:
This role requires regular onsite presence. The preferred location is Phoenix, Arizona; candidates may also be considered for onsite work in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Remote or hybrid work is not available for this position.

About Acron Aviation (Avionics – Surveillance):
Acron Aviation designs, engineers, and manufactures certified avionics systems that support safety‑critical flight operations across commercial and military aviation. Within Avionics, the Surveillance product line develops and sustains systems that enable aircraft awareness, collision avoidance, and airspace interoperability, including ADS‑B, Mode S transponders, TCAS, and integrated surveillance solutions. This work is performed in highly regulated environments and demands strong systems, hardware, software, and RF integration across the full product lifecycle—from requirements and certification through production and in‑service support. Surveillance engineering at Acron Aviation is grounded in technical rigor, disciplined execution, and close customer and OEM collaboration.

Senior Systems Engineering

Position Summary:
Acron Aviation is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to support system integration, verification, and validation activities within the Surveillance product line. This role operates in a fast‑paced development environment and requires strong technical depth combined with the ability to lead and coordinate system‑level test and integration efforts. The role partners closely with cross‑functional engineering teams and customers to develop test strategies, execute system‑level testing, analyze results, and ensure solutions meet operational, regulatory, and certification requirements.

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong ownership, proactive communication, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while delivering high‑quality outcomes that directly impact program execution and customer success.

Key Responsibilities:
• Develop system architectures, system‑level requirements, and specifications for surveillance avionics systems
• Develop and execute system integration, verification, and validation test plans and procedures
• Perform interoperability testing across avionics and surveillance equipment
• Analyze laboratory and flight test data to identify trends, validate results, and recommend corrective actions or design improvements
• Collaborate closely with systems, electrical, software, RF, test, and manufacturing engineering teams
• Define, document, execute, and interpret functional tests for new or modified system and software features
• Investigate and support troubleshooting of test setup or execution issues in coordination with engineering and technical teams
• Coordinate with customers and internal stakeholders during test development, execution, and issue resolution
• Communicate technical findings, risks, and progress to peers, program leadership, and customers

Qualifications:

Required:
• Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
• 6+ years of directly related professional experience, preferably in aviation or avionics systems development
• Demonstrated experience developing and executing tests in complex, integrated systems
• Experience authoring system verification and validation plans and procedures

Preferred Additional Skills:
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple disciplines and directly with customers
• Experience capturing voice‑of‑customer inputs and translating them into system requirements or test objectives
• Demonstrated initiative in removing barriers and driving results in a structured, timeline‑driven environment
• Systems‑level mindset with the ability to see the big picture and advocate for effective system integration
• Self‑directed working style with comfort operating with limited oversight while maintaining strong communication
