Job description

Eastern Idaho Public Health is seeking a qualified and motivated Part-Time Registered Dietitian to join the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program in our Idaho Falls office. This position is responsible for providing nutrition assessment, counseling, education, and care planning services to pregnant and postpartum women, infants, and children. The Registered Dietitian develops and delivers nutrition education programs, promotes breastfeeding, determines participant eligibility, issues food benefits, and collaborates with healthcare providers to support positive health outcomes for WIC participants. The ideal candidate is committed to public health, values evidence-based nutrition practices, and enjoys working directly with individuals and families from diverse backgrounds.
Location: Idaho Falls Office, Eastern Idaho Public Health
Schedule: Part-Time, Benefit Eligible / 24 hours a week
CLASS PURPOSE
Conduct nutrition care and education programs for WIC participants, including program development, delivery, and related activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Certification as a Registered Dietitian by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Eligibility for Registered Dietitian licensure in the State of Idaho in accordance with Idaho Code.
  • Knowledge of nutrition education principles and methods.
  • Education in current food handling, safety, and sanitation practices.
  • Experience identifying dietary problems related to nutrition intake; analyzing and evaluating nutrition data; and adapting nutrition counseling to individuals with varying educational and economic backgrounds.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate nutrition education programs and materials.
  • Assist participants with goal setting, food benefit issuance, and appointment scheduling.
  • Resolve vendor-related issues as directed by the State WIC Office.
  • Prepare educational materials for media release.

DUTIES
These duties represent the primary responsibilities of the position but are not intended to be all-inclusive. Employees may be assigned additional or different responsibilities as needed. Employees are expected to be receptive to additional assignments and to keep their supervisor informed if assignments require clarification or cannot be completed as assigned.
  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate nutrition education programs in compliance with federal, state, and district standards.
  • Perform nutrition assessments, including dietary, anthropometric, and hematological components.
  • Develop and document individualized care plans for participants.
  • Provide counseling and education on nutrition, breastfeeding, and other health-related topics based on identified risk priorities, using appropriate nutrition education materials.
  • Issue food benefits, explain food packages, schedule appointments, and determine participant eligibility for program enrollment.
  • Make referrals verbally and in writing and contribute to continuity of care by consulting with healthcare providers, as appropriate.
  • Tailor food packages to accommodate special requests, medical needs, dietary restrictions, and other nutritional requirements.
  • Clean and disinfect office and clinic rooms in accordance with clinic protocols.
  • Promote breastfeeding as the preferred method of infant feeding.
  • Participate in outreach activities.
  • Travel to and work in other clinic locations as assigned.
  • Complete assigned projects within designated timeframes.
  • Supervise dietetic interns.
  • Participate in and contribute to ongoing training and professional development, including continuing education, personnel training, required meetings, annual Eastern Idaho Public Health and WIC trainings, and other required educational activities.
  • Function as a WIC Certifier when needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE ROLE
Employees of Eastern Idaho Public Health serve in an Emergency Response Role and may be requested to respond to public health threats or emergencies in accordance with the District's Public Health Preparedness Plan. This may include working extended shifts, evenings, nights, weekends, or performing duties that differ from normal day-to-day responsibilities. Employees will not be asked, expected, or permitted to perform duties for which they are not trained or qualified.
