The Company's portfolio of core technology and products offer unique capabilities in the areas of high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, cyber security as well as remote sensing applications.
Position Description
This role is responsible for the sustaining and continuous improvement of facilities building systems, fab automation, and wet process equipment supporting QCi's wafer manufacturing line. This position will support design, implementation, and startup of new systems and equipment during expansion periods. The engineer focuses on utilities, facilities interfaces, tool automation, and wet benches/tools to ensure safe, reliable, and high availability operations in the cleanroom and support areas. The role is distinctly cross-functional, working with process, equipment, EHS, and IT/controls teams to improve uptime, automation, and overall fab capability.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible and facility interfaces for fab tools, including gases, chemicals, exhaust, electrical power, and chilled water for assigned areas and wet benches.
  • Responsible for maintaining and upgrading wet benches, as well working with processes to optimize / solve and wet process related issues.
  • Continuously improve, maintain, and when needed design automation and control solutions for fab systems (e.g., PLCs, HMIs, interlocks, alarms, data logging) to support safe and repeatable operations.
  • Integrate tools into factory systems such as data collection, monitoring, and basic MES/recipe or lot tracking where applicable.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for building systems and wet tools, including SOPs, P&IDs, interlock matrices, functional specifications, and operating/maintenance procedures.
  • Monitor facilities and tool health via sensors, alarms, and SPC trends; drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions for excursions or system failures.
  • Coordinate with EHS on chemical delivery, storage, waste handling, and exhaust/scrubber systems, ensuring compliance with applicable safety and environmental regulations.
  • Plan and execute projects to upgrade infrastructure, add new tools, or improve automation, including scope definition, vendor coordination, schedule, and risk management
Required Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3-7+ years of experience in facilities, controls, or automation engineering in a semiconductor, photonics, or similar high-tech manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience with wet process benches or wet chemical tools (e.g., clean, etch, strip), including utilities, exhaust, and safety interlocks.
  • Practical experience with industrial controls and automation (e.g., PLCs, HMIs, distributed I/O, alarm systems, data acquisition, or SCADA-like monitoring).
  • Strong understanding of building systems that support a fab environment (process gases, chemicals, exhaust, scrubbers, CDA, vacuum, DI water, HVAC).
  • Ability to read and create technical drawings and documentation (P&IDs, one-line diagrams, layout drawings, interlock diagrams).
  • Demonstrated project execution skills, from requirements and design through installation, startup, and handoff to operations.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills, including working with operations, EHS, IT, and external vendors.
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • 7-10+ years of experience in semiconductor or integrated photonics facilities/automation roles.
  • Experience with recipe/lot tracking, basic MES interfaces, or tool-to-factory communication standards.
