Job description

Function The Visual Arts Aide assists with the daily operations of the Charles H. Taylor Visual Arts Center under the Hampton Coliseum/Hampton Arts Department. This position supports staff, instructors, and visitors to ensure smooth programming, engaging exhibitions, and a welcoming experience for all guests.

Typical Tasks: Greet visitors, answer phone inquiries, and maintain attendance logs. Register class participants, collect fees, and process payments and memberships. Communicate with instructors, distribute class materials, and send student reminders.

Assist in special projects such as gallery wall painting and classroom rearrangement. Maintain exhibition and class files, including artist bios and attendance records. Support collection care and artwork documentation.

Provide excellent customer service and assist with general administrative tasks. Minimum Requirements High school diploma or successful completion of GED. Some college coursework in liberal or fine arts preferred.

Must successfully pass a background check before any offer of employment or promotion. Additional Requirements Strong customer service and interpersonal skills required. Must be able to work independently with follow through on projects and assignments.

High proficiency in Microsoft Office and other computer experience required. Must be available to work a combination of days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. The incumbent may be considered "essential personnel" during City emergencies or at the direction of the City Manager, which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
