Scientist - CTI (Consumer Technical Insights)

Background & Purpose of the Job

The North America Nutrition Business Unit (BU) in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey is looking for a consumer savvy scientist to join our Consumer Technical Insights (CTI) team to contribute to the success of our North America brands. CTI (Consumer Technical Insights) is an integral part of R&D, sitting at the interface between product design and marketing. Our purpose is to guide our brand and category design partners to create products that deliver to the consumer needs, with product experiences that delight consumers and cue desired benefits. We develop communications that are purposeful and extremely compelling.

This is an exciting opportunity for a role designed to cover Insights and Consumer testing through a holistic approach and multiple touch points via consumer, sensory, claims and science skills.

Who You Are & What You'll Do

  • Basic appreciation of the design of a holistic consumer understanding plan for Innovation projects.

  • Able to independently design consumer testing and analyze and interpret data with guidance on final conclusions.

  • Provide insights as opposed to data.

  • Possesses sound, basic appreciation of advanced testing including Pref mapping and modeling and when to apply.

  • Understand how to translate CTI information into technical targets against which products can be designed (performance & attributes), developed and measured.

  • Basic appreciation of qualitative methods with some applied usage of focus group and 1:1 interviews.

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate research plan following UL global guidelines and within project budget.

  • Ensures comprehensive understanding of purpose of testing, documented procedures, purpose, and data interpretation of results, conclusion, and insights.

  • Independently executes projects with minimum complexity.

  • Able to identify research needs, brief and manage research partners and lead discussions.

  • Actively participate in and effectively conducts meetings with R&D, marketing and Consumer Market Insights (CMI).

  • Negotiates timelines and deliverables with project team.

  • Delivers aligned plan to CMI and to the project team.

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in Food Science, Data Science, Chemistry, Biology Science, Psychology or similar discipline preferred.

  • 2+ years of experience in CTI/Claims (Consumer research, Sensory, Claims and Communication Development) (including internship) strongly preferred.

  • Knowledge of Sensory Science, Consumer research, statistics/data modeling a plus

  • Sensory & Consumer testing techniques along with Claim support and demo creation techniques experience.

  • Excellent communication skills

Pay: The pay range for this position is $71,400 to $107,200. Unilever takes into consideration a wide range of factors that are utilized in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, qualifications and education, and other business and organizational needs.

Bonus: This position is bonus eligible.
