Ophthalmic Technician Internship / Student Optician - 2026 National Summer Internship Program | Alberta
Are you looking for a paid summer opportunity to gain real clinical experience in eye care?
Vision Group is hiring Optician and Bachelor of Science students for its 2026 National Summer Internship Program within the LASIK MD network across Canada.
This 8-week paid internship offers hands-on experience in a laser vision correction clinic, where you will apply your academic knowledge in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment. Full training is provided.
What Youโ€™ll Gain:
  • Exposure to advanced diagnostic technology
  • Hands-on clinical experience in pre-op and post-op testing
  • Collaboration with optometrists and ophthalmologists
  • Valuable resume-building experience in refractive surgery
 Responsibilities:
  • Assist and perform patient testing during pre-operative and post-operative exams
  • Complete patient charts accurately
  • Learn and perform diagnostic skills including:
    lensometry, autorefraction, pupillometry, fundus photography, corneal topography and tomography, OCT (cornea and retina), biometry, and higher-order aberration testing
  • Support patient communication and ensure excellent customer service
 Compensation & Schedule:
  • Paid internship
  • 8 weeks, approx. 4 days/week (approx. 32 hours/week)
 Eligibility:
  • Currently enrolled in a recognized optician program or Bachelor of Science program
  • OMT students welcome
  • Submit preferred LASIK MD clinic locations (see www.lasikmd.com)
  • French proficiency required for Quebec, New Brunswick, and Ottawa locations
