Job description
Career Launch is a workforce development program designed to help you kickstart your health care career. We remove the financial burden of completing your degree while providing the mentoring and support needed to graduate. Our students attend local colleges and career centers to earn the skills needed to advance their careers. We offer the following tracks:
- Medical Assistant (MA)
- Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN)
- Electroencephalogram Technologist (EEG Tech)
- Bachelor Degree in Nursing (BSN)
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
- Certified Surgical Technologist (OR Tech)
- Radiography
- Mental Health Counseling Trainee (Master's degree internship)
- Cardiac Sonography
- Police Officer
At Children's, we understand that everyone's journey to graduation is unique. That's why we offer two different options for this program:
Traditional Career Launch
Our traditional Career Launch program provides an opportunity to work a full-time, part-time or PRN (on-call) position at Akron Children's while attending school at least part-time. Participants work in various roles and move into their clinical position after graduation to fulfill a two-year work commitment.
Career Launch Plus
Career Launch Plus is designed for employees and community members who want a fast track to graduation. Students attend school full-time while being offered up to fifteen hours of paid professional development time each month. This program offers more schedule flexibility and time to study. After graduation, participants fulfill a three-year work commitment to Akron Children's.
PROGRAM BENEFITS
We find ways to help program participants overcome common challenges by offering 100% paid tuition, paid fees for uniforms, books, supplies, and equipment, as well as options for other benefits including:
- Transportation assistance as needed
- Childcare reimbursement for time spent in class
- Opportunities for mentorship and networking within the hospital
- Job placement assistance after graduation at Akron Children's
HOW DO I QUALIFY?
Career Launch participants will possess traits that align with our three promises:
- To treat every child as we would our own
- To treat others as they would like to be treated
- To turn no child away
We also require that candidates be determined to complete their education while meeting the expectations of the role they accept with the hospital. Our participants are driven, motivated, and willing to go the extra mile to succeed. Career Launch requires a high degree of professionalism, solid communication skills, and the ability to work as part of a team. Candidates must complete a successful intake and job shadow process to receive full program acceptance. Learn more about the enrollment process here.
After graduation, we help employees transition into their selected field of study to complete a work commitment and put their skills to use. Career Launch aims to remove barriers to education that prevent many from starting health care careers.
