Job description

Welcome to ConocoPhillips, where innovation and excellence create a platform for opportunity and growth. Come realize your full potential here.
Who We Are
We are one of the world's largest independent exploration and production companies, based on proved reserves and production of liquids and natural gas. With operations and activities in 13 countries, we explore for, develop, and produce crude oil and natural gas globally. We are challenged with an important job to safely find and deliver energy to the world. Our employees are critical to our success, and with them we power civilization.
We're grounded by our SPIRIT Values - safety, people, integrity, responsibility, innovation, and teamwork. These values position us to deliver strong performance in a dynamic business - but not at all costs. We believe it's not just what we do - it's how we do it - that sets us apart.
Fostering an Inclusive Work Environment
To deliver superior performance, we create an environment that respects the contributions and differences of every individual. Wherever possible, we use these differences to drive competitive business advantage, personal growth and, ultimately, create business success.
Job Summary
ConocoPhillips' Commercial business manages our worldwide commodity, supply, marketing, and trading needs. Working closely with Exploration, Production and Marketing, Commercial adds significant value by improving ConocoPhillips' supply chain management and growing its third-party global trading business.
This is a trade monitoring, market analysis, and counterparty due diligence role at the heart of the Commercial business. You will turn daily trading data into insight - spotting patterns in trading behavior across changing market conditions, supporting KYC and sanctions-aware reviews of our counterparties, and helping the desk trade within global regulatory limits. We are looking for someone with genuine commodities/energy market curiosity and a risk mindset: a person who wants to understand why the market and our counterparties behave the way they do, not just how to build a model. The successful candidate thinks strategically, adapts as the environment shifts, and has a demonstrated drive to learn new subjects independently.
Position Overview
Your responsibilities may include:
  • Review and analyze daily global trading activity using energy trading systems and analytics tools to identify patterns, outliers, and potential risk indicators
  • Interpret trading behavior across multiple market conditions and develop working knowledge of North American, European, and Asia Pacific markets and the commodities ConocoPhillips trades
  • Support KYC / counterparty due diligence and sanctions awareness - contributing to onboarding and periodic risk reviews of Commercial counterparties and escalating red flags
  • Monitor global regulatory trading thresholds and help ensure activity stays within limits
  • Build clear, decision-ready dashboards and analysis (Power BI / Tableau) that make trading and counterparty data understandable to front-office and compliance stakeholders
  • Maintain effective working relationships with front-office personnel across regions, building a practical understanding of ConocoPhillips' trading strategies
  • Participate in business improvement projects, including supporting or leading cross-functional teams that enhance monitoring processes and systems

Success Profile
  • Takes Accountability: Takes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments, holding others accountable and standing up for what's right
  • Makes Decisions: Builds effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical
  • Drives Performance: Delivers results through realistic planning to accomplish goals
  • Communicates Effectively: Listens actively, stays curious, and invites new ideas for shared understanding, then influences and acts to drive positive performance

Basic Requirements:
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in business, finance, economics, engineering, mathematics, statistics, related field, or foreign equivalent
  • 1 or more years of experience in a commercial, trading, risk, banking, or proprietary trading environment, or relevant oil & gas experience (including internships)
  • 1 or more years of hands-on experience turning data into insight with Power BI, Tableau, or an equivalent data visualization and analytics tool
  • Working proficiency in SQL for querying and analyzing data
  • Strong communication and networking skills, including interacting with senior-level staff

Preferred Requirements:
  • Exposure to KYC, counterparty due diligence, sanctions, or trade/regulatory compliance
  • Familiarity with commodities/energy markets and time-series trading data
  • Clear evidence of a self-taught skill or topic - a certification, project, or capability you pursued on your own initiative - demonstrating genuine drive to learn
  • Working knowledge of Python, R, VBA, or a similar language - or a demonstrated ability and drive to pick it up on the job
