Job description

Meta is seeking an AI Design Generalist to join our design team across our central products organization. This is a new kind of design role — and a unique opportunity to build your career at the forefront of AI-driven design. You'll use AI as your primary tool to design products, features, and flows, working across product design, content design, and front-end development. With guidance from principal-level designers and your manager, you'll learn to draw on design system foundations, content voice and tone guidelines, and front-end frameworks to ship experiences from problem framing through production code.
AI Design Generalist Responsibilities:
  • Design across disciplines: Use AI tools and agents to design user experiences that integrate visual, interaction, content, and front-end elements — developing your ability to work fluidly across traditional product design and content design boundaries
  • Bring ideas to life in prototypes: Use AI to generate functional prototypes to explore and validate design directions, incorporating feedback from your manager and team members to build conviction in the approach
  • Support production changes: Use AI to generate implementable, testable code and partner with engineers to land direct changes in product
  • Exploration: Use AI tools across the design process — from initial framing and ideation, through iteration of static elements, to functional prototyping and contributing to production code changes — within a defined product area
  • Design excellence: Apply developing expertise in visual, interaction, and content design to craft and deliver high-quality user experiences through AI tools. Give and solicit feedback from other designers to continually improve design quality
  • Learning & iteration: Stay current with AI tool evolution and actively participate in team knowledge sharing. Use AI to gather and synthesize insights, prototype ideas, and iterate through qualitative feedback, live testing, and measurement
  • Support stakeholder alignment: Contribute to stakeholder alignment through prototypes and data-informed design decisions that balance user needs with business objectives, with support from your manager and team leads
  • Build partnerships: Work effectively with engineering, product, and research. Use AI-generated prototypes and production-ready code to move faster with cross-functional partners
  • Communicate your work clearly: Articulate your design decisions and rationale. Share work proactively in critique and cross-functional forums
  • Demonstrate responsible AI usage: Consistently protect people, data, and intellectual property by following policy-compliant, transparent practices and applying secure-by-design workflows that enable trusted, scalable adoption

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Internships or 1+ years of experience in Product Design, Content Design, or related UX discipline with foundational skills in interaction design, visual design, or UX writing
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
  • AI tool familiarity with hands-on experience or demonstrated aptitude using AI design tools, prompt engineering, and content generation platforms
  • Prototyping skills with the ability to create wireframes and mocks, and an eagerness to build functional prototypes
  • Systems thinking awareness is helpful in designing solutions that work across products and platforms, with support from your team
  • Cross-functional collaboration experience working effectively with engineering, product management, research, and data science teams
  • Portfolio demonstrating your design process, teamwork, and contributions to user experience improvements
  • Communication skills to share design decisions, participate in critique, and contribute to team discussions

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Community involvement through learning, sharing, or participating in the advancement of AI-native design practices
  • Emerging technology interest staying current with AI design tools, spatial computing, and multimodal interface design
  • Technical curiosity including basic coding ability, interest in learning core engineering concepts and terminology
  • System design awareness in information architecture, scalable content frameworks and design systems
  • Hybrid design background or demonstrated interest in both Product Design and Content Design disciplines — can come from either
  • AI product exposure having worked on or contributed to conversational AI, generative AI features, or AI-native product development — including internship or academic experience
  • Experience with accessibility and designing for a broad range of users and use cases
